I was told by Rick Faugno (alternate Frankie) and Jennifer Evans (swing) that clove cigarettes are used, because Jennifer had to use them when she was kissing Erich during the "Oh What a Night" scene.
Those are great pics of the boys at the parade.. But the way Steve is posing by the car just looks uncomfortable. Now if only someone would post a good quality clip on youtube the little skit they did before they introduced Cheer SF.
And those 3 new names on the cast board are the stage managers. They added the stage managers names for both casts to the official site too.
They're contracted for six shows a week. With the current cast in SF the alternate does Sun and Wed matinees. If the LA production kept the same alternate schedule used in SF, then the alternate goes on Tue and does the Wed matinee, but then it may have changed.
chris just told me two days ago, but i forgot... all I know is that at the Ahmanson, instead of Wed matinee, they perform on Sun evenings. Chris is off on Tues, and Sun night I think. I thought that he preferred having a bigger break over the weekend, instead of spreading it out over the week. I'm sure someone will know.
Their weekends must be brutal. Updated On: 6/25/07 at 04:04 PM
See Taylor Sternberg in an ape suit (well not the whole suit, just the head) on 7/17. He'll be covering the Hank Majewski track since Eric Gutman will be on as Bob Gaudio that night, as mentioned in his blog. Erich Bergen is taking a personal day since he's performing at a benefit in NY on 7/16.
I don't even think people in LA look at this thread. The only people who post in it are from the Bay Area. Taylor's website
So saw the LA company last night. I saw the OBC a year ago.
It was fine, it works, it plays. The audience was responsive but not NEARLY as enthusiastic as the NYC/NJ audience I saw it with (no tears, no ovations until the final curtain call). The four leads, well, there's really no comparison with the OBC. Only Deven May is playing in their league. Erich Bergen was perfectly serviceable but he didn't bring anything new or exciting to the role. I can't tell you what Michael Ingersoll was doing. Nick's a hard part but he seemed really lost. As for CK Jones, well, it's going to be a long time before they find anyone who can come close to what John Lloyd Young does, so I guess we'll have to suffer through mediocrity and lost notes until then. I was surprised to see him on a Tuesday night. I could go into more detail if anyone cares, but basically the show is probably very entertaining if you've never seen the OBC, but if you have, well, the less said the better.
Ok people, I'm saying this in advance because let's face it, every so often someone posts something comparing one cast to another or someone post they don't like a cast. Next thing you know it becomes an East Coast Jersey Boys vs West Coast Jersey Boys thing and it gets ugly. As Lizzie mentioned, remember the Tonight Show debacle, let's not turn this thread into that.

Hee - I didn't know JB was like a gangsta rap throw down - East Coast v. West Coast. That seems odd - aren't most of the Sherry cast from NYC? And I thought Christian Hoff was living in LA and moved to NYC to do the Bway run, so wouldn't that actually make him West Coast? Just kidding...
I think it's perfectly fair to compare actors I have witnessed performing the same role. And I'm hardly a Broadway snob who thinks unless it's on Bway it can't be good. I've seen plenty of tours/sit downs in LA that kick serious ass, with outstanding perfomers (Stephanie J. Block and Davis Gaines come to mind immediately). This cast didn't measure up, and that's purely my opinion. I obviously missed the memo saying that the only posts allowed in this thread are complimentary.
And the only reason I even posted was upthread people were saying "Hey, we haven't heard from anyone in LA, only SF."

Oh, no, it's not that -- it's just (not exclusive to this thread) there has been the condescending sentiment from those who've seen the OBC that those who've only seen Jersey Boys in SF or LA are getting crap and don't know any better because we're not sophisticated enough to realize it. Not that I'm accusing you of that (and I doubt mll85 was either).
I personally love the Sherry cast, but not everyone is going to. It's just fair warning to you. Ruckuses can happen even when you don't mean to be the perpetrator.

Your response is a very common response to audiences who have seen the broadway cast (multiple times or otherwise), and then see the touring cast.
I *almost* see the Broadway and the touring casts' performances as two completely different shows. I love the Broadway cast as well, but also love the Sherry cast, and the shows are very different.
Can you imagine what Jersey Boys is going to be like in 20-30 years?
btw, Deven May doesn't say the Siberia line, which was in the original production in La Jolla, at the Ahmanson! He says the same line that's being said on Broadway and at the Curran Theater. I was slightly disappointed. :) Updated On: 6/27/07 at 03:18 PM

NOOOO! Well, I guess those of us who saw Deven at the Curran can feel special now.
