I looked at the track listing on BWW and the playbill. The following numbers are not on the cast album. I am curious why these were left off
1. Sail Away
2. Mrs Dees Rant
3. Hymn
It's not entirely uncommon for cast albums to leave out entire songs for one reason or another.
Just wondered why.A shame as these 3 were quite good especially the voices in Mrs Dee's.
It's also missing the act one finale version of The Last Ship (Reprise)
Only Sting knows the answer
I do get irritated when cast albums leave off the act one finale.
"Only Sting knows the answer"
Isn't the answer just getting it to fit on one disc? Which is slightly silly to someone who downloads music, to be restricted by how much music can fit on something you don't want.
I'm not so sure I would take that listing of songs as definitive. It seems strange that three songs and the reprise of the title song (which Esper is part of) would not be included. There is not an enormous amount of music. Surely it can all fit on one disc.
This recording was clearly a rush job to get it out as soon as possible. It wouldn't surprise me if the list is accurate but I do hope there are some bonus tracks on iTunes.
Track listing is the same on Amazon.
Three songs and the Act One Finale? Is it any more rushed if they were added? Could it have been so rushed they had to get out of the studio to avoid overtime??
I think you may have hit on something here.
Imagine the surprise when people @ the theater buy it and later realize some numbers are missing when they play the cd.
Amazon pre-orders are notoriously wacky, as well. Similar to the thread where people complained that the Funny Girl anniversary LPs were going to cost $300+, based on the pre-order, and then they were nowhere close to that price on release date. DVDs that Amazon says contain no special features that end up loaded with them, etc., etc.
I wouldn't think the show is popular enough to merit a "special edition" or to add 2 songs if you buy it at target, two more if you buy it on iTunes, etc., but I wouldn't consider this a certainty yet.
Once it is listed as such on the Last Ship Merchandise site, or we see an image of the tracklist, perhaps.
I realize waiting for facts to discuss something goes against the very nature of BWW.

The only recent example I can think of where an initial track list was inaccurate was the Matilda cast recording. They announced it initially with a track list very similar to the previous cast album and then the final track list had "Miracle" split into three tracks with additional dialogue and bonus tracks that weren't announced originally. That was a nice surprise.

There is still a market for people who buy physical media. That said you can offer bonus tracks online if they wanted to.
Every cast album I have on my mp3 player I have a hard copy backup on the shelfthat I purchased or recieved as a gift
The Bonus track on Big Fish was a song cut prior to opening
There are 3 songs in the show not on the CD. This is really not fair to those who see the show & buy the cd thinking they are getting the whole show. I doubt it was a time constraint on the physical CD. For whatever reason, it appears they were never recorded. Maybe someone else contributed in some way to the songs & their permission could not be gained in time. We will never know but it is a shame nonetheless
What I find interesting is that they included a bonus track (What Say You? Performed by Sting) on the CD, yet they chose to omit numbers from the show.
We will never know why. We must accept it and move on. Maybe Sting will address this if the question is put to him.

I've seen the CD and Sail Away is on it. But there are omissions still.
Any port in a storm but good news.
Is the act one finale reprise on the CD? That's the one that baffles me. How and why would anyone leave off the act one finale of any show? My only guess is that whoever produced the album wanted it to play as a one act. The missing material is mostly at the end of the first act and the top of the second.

^ Nope. It's the same as listed on Amazon and elsewhere, just with the addition of Sail Away.

Just seen iTunes listing and it does include Sail Away and Mrs Dees rant 22 Tracks
On MP3 on Amazon Mrs Dee's Rant is missing
On the CD still do not see Sail Away listed on the track listing. Ordering CD on Monday & it will be interesting to see what is actually on what. When Big Fish came out, there were 2 cut songs. One was on the cd & the other was on MP3
All the music appears to have been recorded. The trick will be where the "missing" songs actually wind up. They definitely are not on the CD
