How long is Jackman (and Foster) under contract? I'd assume a year.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It looks like a year for Hugh. Telechage is already providing info as to when he will be out.
Mr. Jackman will not be appearing in THE MUSIC MAN on the following dates: August 15–21, 2022 September 5–11, 2022 October 10–16, 2022 (These dates currently not on sale.)

Yup. Looks like they’re continuing the scenario they did with THE BOY FROM OZ - when Hugh takes those breaks, EVERYONE takes those breaks AND paid. Sadly, his understudies can pretty much assume they’ll never go on as Hugh is proud of his no-missed-performances record. He uses those breaks wisely and there’s a doctor on standby with those shots just in case. Show WILL go on with Hugh. You can count on that.
The 1st 3 weeks of September coincide with the filmfests season (Venice/Telluride/Toronto. ) Could he be doing promotion work in that scheduled week-off in September for his upcoming film ( Florian Zeller 's film adaptation of his play THE SON, from the same dama trilogy as The Father) ?

I'm hoping the show goes on with a replacement on these dates. While I think Hugh has a great stage presence and works his butt off on stage, I can't stand his singing voice. Possibly it's because of his technique. To me, it's like a teacher's nails scratching on a blackboard. I'd rather see the show with a replacement going on as Harold Hill. "

I’ll bet that one of the reasons for no shows during Hugh’s vacations is that tptb don’t want to deal with the crap they’ll get with people buying tickets and not realizing Hugh was off, and then being seriously p*ssed about it when they find out he’s not on!
I know we always say people should go to see the show and not a specific actor, but most of the MM audience will be there to see Hugh, let’s face it!
I don't think we'll ever see this show performed without Jackman in it.
Maybe they'll find a replacement, but during his run, they'll just shut it down. No offense to the understudy, but people are there to Jackman not Music Man.

Man, if he didn't already have a sitcom and SNL going on, I'd love to see Kenan Thompson do a Broadway show. He knows how to make anything work, and you can read his facial expression from a football field away.
"Hey little girls, look at all the men in shiny shirts and no wives!" - Jackie Hoffman, Xanadu, 19 Feb 2008
I think the brilliance of Kenan Thompson is that he's not only very funny, he's a funny straight-man; his reactions (or underreactions) to things are often as funny as the things themselves. You can almost see Kenan as the last minstrel comedian, but one who has recaptured and recontextualized these stereotyped traits and performance styles to make him the joker instead of the butt of the jokes. His enormous facial expressions, bugged-out eyes and comical overreactions are the sort of things you would have seen in minstrelsy or vaudeville (Kenan is DEFINITELY a disciple of vaudevillian Mantan Moreland), but even when he plays with stereotypes, Kenan is always smarter, slyer or more in control than his (often white) counterparts. If it's a minstrel show, Kenan is the interlocutor, not the clown.

I’m curious if they might do something similar to when Donna Murphy stepped in for Bette’s vacations, and bring in a Broadway name to fill the void. Maybe they are just waiting to sell these dates until they can get that someone. So many people could do it, but Norm Lewis tops my list and Brian d’Arcy James is a close second(for the shrek reunion).

I hope it's Norm Lewis, he was brilliant as Harold in DC. And as a person of color, it would be a good move for the production. I look forward to buying a ticket for when Hugh isn't there and someone who can actually sing well is put in. And yup, I'm aware that Harold "doesn't have to have a great singing voice".
Norm Lewis would be the heir apparent in this list, a triple threat Broadway star with the charm and sex appeal -- an important part of Harold, not noticed unless it's entirely missing -- to establish the salesman's charisma.

Norm Lewis did a Q&A after his concert in Cincinnati this weekend. One of the questions he was asked was if there was a role he wanted to play. He started with "well, you know, this guy Hugh Jackman..." and went on to say he'd been hoping to play the role on Broadway. Then he said "who knows, maybe when he leaves." I think he'd definitely be interested. I'd love to see him in it.
