omg i hope krysta is on for tomorrow's matinee so i can witness her!
i always get full cast! (not that thats a bad thing..)
Benzy- I walked by Heights on my way to a different show this afternoon, saw the matinee board was up, and while it sucks that Mandy is still out I was glad to see that you got to see Krysta!Nina today! (And a Rickey!Graffiti Pete bonus too!)
eta- the ladies of In the Heights celebrate Fleet Week- pic in the Daily News yesterday-
I just need to point out that my CD showed up today, and I won't be home to get it until Monday night. dfd'j;gcln;lifd.

The choosing was not...

I went to see In the Heights for the first time at the matinee today, and I AM IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!!! The entire show is amazing. I was skeptical going in, but by the end of the title number, it became my favorite show I've seen in a while!! Krysta was on as Nina, and I thought she was phenomenal! Although I've only heard her on the recording, I thought Krysta was a little better. Lin-Manuel Miranda was amazing, as was the rest of the cast. I bought the recording at the theatre, and have been listening to it nonstop!! I am totally in love with this amazing, revolutionary new show!!!!!!
EDT: Also, this has been the only show to have genuinely made me cry. It makes you feel so much! I love it!
"He found something that he wanted, had always wanted and always would want— not to be admired, as he had feared; not to be loved, as he had made himself believe; but to be necessary to people, to be indispensable."
-F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise
Cute story--- was PROUDLY wearing my "No Para..." t-shirt today in the parks, and someone actually recognized the shirt from the show !! They had heard about it from relatives (they live in Miami), and want to fly to NY just to see the show !!!
In other news... Convinced now that the OBCR is the best that I have ever heard !
Karen's had problems with her voice in the past; it's like she wears it out or puts too put strain on it which is a shame because she really does have a gorgeous voice. But I have to admit, when she dropped it, that was awkward.
Ok, so after losing the lotto on Thursday my sister and I rtried again and she won. So I was really excited to see the show, and even more excited when I saw that Krysta was going on as Nina. She did a fantastic job. She doesn't quite have the volume and power that Mandy has so effortlessly, but she was terrific nonetheless. She has such a beautiful voice and I loved her acting. And, like another poster wrote earlier, she truly looks the part of a 19 year old coming home from her first year of college.
And yeah, I could tell that Karen was still having a little trouble with her voice holding in on "It Won't be Long Now" and cutting out a bit in "96,000" but she still has one of the most gorgeous voices I've ever heard.
My sister and I had a great time at the show and I'm really glad I got to see it again before going home. And everyone was so nice at the stage door! Now I'm gonna go listen to the recording...
Anakela, I didn't get into the mat, but did get into the night show, and it was SO WORTH the effort :)
Random thoughts:
Krysta WAS Nina for me hands down.. in fact, I'd go as far as saying she made a pretty flawless show INTO a flawless show. Her acting was SPOT ON, something always missing a little from Mandy, and her youth and energy was perfect. While her voice might not be quite up to par with Mandy's, it was much different- lighter and sweeter, and it didn't sound as high in the chest as it does in Mandy's. Don't get me wrong- I still love Mandy!
Priscilla's goof was actually Krysta's goof.. she forgot her line in "Enough" which threw Priscilla off, but thats ok, they covered well, as awkward as it was for us who know the song.
I worry about Karen because after tonight and the Tony nom performance, she really needs a break/use her instrument more carefully!
The crowd was AMAZING tonight, and the cast fed off of it which was fun.
In conclusion, I almost can't see ITH again until Krysta is on again! She just DID it for me.. something about her stage presence.. she just shined and sparkled!
glad you guys enjoyed it! I actually won lotto (which mind you, is no easy feat these days) but I had 2 friends who really wanted to see the show and I kind of don't want to see it too much so I gave them the tickets. I would have liked to see Krysta, but it's okay. I'm sure she was amazing though!

Got to see the show last night, amazing!!! A pretty messed up show, but amazing none the less. Krysta!Nina, Rickey!GP, Rogelio as Rickey's Track, Michael as Luis's track, no one in Krysta's track.
Can I point out Rogelio's dancing during When Your Home? Holy boy oh man. I've heard he can sing amazingly as well as dancing, so I'm SO ready to see his Benny. I feel like he's gonna be fierce.
Karen needs to just take a break. She gets better during the week, then just gets sick again during the weekends. She was fine on Thursday.... But on Sunday I could tell from the begining of the song that she was sick. She couldn't call out even then because Stephanie wasn't there. I've gone through all the possibilities and only if someone (Afra or Rosie) could cover Nina Lafarga's track at the same time covering their tracks, then they could have Nina!Nina Krysta!Vanessa or Janet!Vanessa Krysta!Carla and Nina!Nina.... which would've been AMAZING if it happened but it didn't. So basically, Karen couldn't call out. But anyway, in 96,000 during her solo, before everyone else sings, she sang...but not strong but she still pulled through it... Yet she didn't sing during her part in 96,000 when everyone was singing, she either mouthed it or like nothing was coming out.
What happened during Enough was that Priscilla was thrown off by Krysta saying her line to Carlos so Priscilla just stopped. The first verse wasn't sang. It felt wayyyyy more than 10 seconds, I'll tell you that much. At one point Carlos knew what part of the song it was up to, so he said his line, but Priscilla was still confused. It was a very intersting song.

I don't believe she does. Speaking of dancers, my favorite has to be Afra. She has this little bit in 'When You're Home' after Benny & Nina run out again that I love.
Janet!Vanessa needs to happen. That would be AMAZING.
I'm doing lotto on Wednesday. I hope it's not too crowded.

Fyi, something new at tonight's lotto- after the names for the 22 lotto front row seats were drawn, there was a second lotto, for 21? I think it was, standing room tickets. Apparently there are now standing room tix at Heights? First time I've ever heard of that. Will try and check out the view and report back later, after i see Stephanie!Carla, Krysta!Vanessa and JANET!NINA tonight! :)
ugh, i was hoping they wouldn't do the lotto thing with standing room, but oh well.
I asked the guy at the box office about standing room yesterday, apparently they only have it if the show is completely sold out and its for $21.50, and you stand in the back of orchestra.
