I wanted to add my congrats to all the cast and creators of In The Heights on its Tony win. When I saw the show last year Off-Broadway, my fellow writer at DC Theatre Scene.com Debbie Jackson and I were so excited, I pulled out my tape recorder and we recorded a short podcast expressing our love for the show, as we drove in a taxi. We came back to DC and PRd the show everywhere, and got DC theatre goers to come up and see it. They also fell in love with the show. A few weeks before the Tony nominations came out, I had the honor of podcasting Andrea Burns and Robin de Jesus. I love these interviews and want to share them here with you. The love this cast has for each other is so wonderful to see. I love this show so much and I wish it a long successful run. Much love from your DC fans. I came back from the show tonight a little while ago. I saw this for the second time and have to say it was just as good. At first I was disappointed cause I loved Lin, but I have to say Javier's portrayal gave me a different outlook. I felt that seeing Javier was different because he is more of an actor turned rapper instead of more a rapper turned actor. I felt that the cast, including Javier, seemed like a real neighborhood ensemble show instead of a show about Usnavi and the people in his neighborhood. Also Javier is one of the nicest people I've met at a stage door. Everybody was great tonight, Robin, Andrea and Janet were all just as amazing as when I saw them the night after opening night. The show is in great shape and I hope Lin gets well soon.
Yes, but sometimes people have a third deeper layer thats the same as the first. Like pie. Dr. Horrible
wow!!!!! loads of in the heights fans at the tonys and plus they now each character in the show. plus janet and andrea gave great lovely chemistry onstage.
us bww people know to get advance tickets when we know they were going to be up for best musical.
talked to lin today away from the stagedoor and told him congratulations. we talked about the tonys and other thigs for about 15 minutes. very sweet guy. broke news to him that advance ticket sales were over a million and he was in total awe and speechless.
<< He also checked out his rapped acceptance speech on YouTube, "which is like watching yourself when you're in this moment of absolute panic — when you're getting mugged or something." >>
<< "The show is about home. Anyone who's had a guardian or grandpa or a mother who has sacrificed for them can relate to this."
:) I love him.
Testing, I wish I was able to go as many times as you! >>
Thats what I think makes the show so special. Everyone that I speak with that just saw the show for the 1st time tells me that they related to so much of the story.
A few of us posted about this previously on the thread.
I remember the "Good Humor" man that used to ride the bike in our neighborhood every summer. Our mom's used to throw change down from the terraces in plastic bags.
We used to have "block parties" all the time, with the fire hydrants open full blast !!
On a personal note... I could relate to Nina so much (except for the female part !!)
College kicked my butt ! My dad was sick at the time, right before he passed on, and I couldnt get my head into it.
I remember that call into the Dean's office --- I remember my parents struggle to afford my tuition.
Show hits home for so many people !!
Taylor... hopefully, people can live vicariously thru the thread, and feel like they are right there every night !!! :))
This is stupid and random, but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it. I was in San Juan the other day, and saw a piragua cart. Right next to it, and I mean RIGHT NEXT, was a "Mr Softy" (sic) van. The line for the piraguas was longer. TRIUMPH!
Haha! That makes me happy (and makes me want piragua)!
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!"
-Kermit the frog"I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P."Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu""...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu
After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu
I tried to take a pic with my (crappy) cell phone, but I couldn't get both the Mr Softy and piragua cart in one shot, and what I did get was too blurry. Oh well. I bought a piragua for the good of the piragueros revolution.
chica, the EXACT same thing happened to me in the east village... this show really is pretty global!
