I so wish I was going tonight!!! The vibe is going to be huge!! I wondering if Lin will go on cause everyone was saying how raspby he was on Sunday?? probably will
"did you know asmeret who plays pilar in legally blonde was an u/s for vanessa and did go on a few times in the role."
Yes, I saw Asmeret go on for both Carla and Vanessa Off-Broadway. She was fabulous in both roles. Not my favorite in either, but still amazing.
Also asked, Asmeret didn't transfer with In the Heights to Broadway because she left the show on July 1st to go to Legally Blonde. Yes, she knew about the transfer, but was offered to go Legally Blonde instead. And might I add, it was a great choice to do Blonde. After the MTV show, and now that she's understudying Brooke, it was a great choice.
And tonight is going to be AMAZING!!!! So excited! =)
- full on almost a minute of entrance applause for Lin. We're talking hold the show: "...that's my wall!" **applause** **more applause** **still applauding** "Lights up on Washington Heights..." He had his back to most of the house, facing Daniela's thru most of it, but I like to think I could still see him smiling. :)
- Seth, Olga, Priscilla/Carlos, Janet/Andrea, Robin, Mandy, Chris, Karen (sorry I know I just listed them in the wrong order there) all received smatterings of entrance applause
- the *Irish* received applause. First time I've ever heard that at Heights, lol: "...when half this block was Irish." *applause* *laughter about the applause*
- Total New York crowd tonight, which I say because the "there's no nine train" line received the *most* laugh I've ever heard it get. Ever.
- Everyone's performances were amazing; Robin and Andrea were landing huge laughs on their jokes, Lin's tears made me cry
There's a ton more I'm forgetting to talk about, but I am *exhausted*...will let Testing or someone else take it over from here. :) (lol- Testing beat me to it! Well, someone else then. hee.)
eta: so apparently thru friends, and friends of friends, I knew about 20-25 people who all lost the lotto tonight, *that* is how crowded it was.
eta again: oh, and as he was dancing offstage after curtain call, Lin flashed four fingers at the crowd. I'd just read something (the Daily News story) that talked about how the Sunday matinee he had flashed '13', so the '4' really made my night.

i was there tonight as well and it was absolutely electric. as others have said, everyone got entrance applause, which was fantastic, and lin manuel miranda got at least one full minute of applause. he totally deserved it.
the last time I had seen the show was February 15th and I have to say, it was even better now that I know the score. Karen and Mandy were on fire tonight with their solos and Andrea and Janet were hilarious. Christopher was spot on, Robin was amazing and so funny, Priscilla was excellent, Olga was incredible with Paciencia y Fe, and Lin Manuel was perfection the entire night.
I feel so lucky to have been there tonight, and to be able to congratulate the cast at the stage door on their first night after winning Best Musical was priceless. The show was completely sold out tonight and the audience was eating it up. Brilliant. Thank you IN THE HEIGHTS for making me, and so many others, so happy. This is what live theater is all about.
Lats thought before I go to sleep, and actually WithoutATrace's post just reminded me of this-
So as I'm walking out of the theatre tonight these two women behind me were *gushing* about how much they loved the show- "and the talent of the cast" this and "their performances were so electrifying" that, "music," etc., and then the one woman busts out with the "it just...it just reminded me of *why* I love this city so." And I possibly almost started crying again.
ok, this is seriously my *last* post tonight, I need to sleep, but- if you walk by the stage door of Heights, and look up, you will see the following window:
Hopefully you can see the poster in the window- "I don't know about God, but.."
The Irish cheering was weird... I can't decide if I find it innapropriate or not... I'm leading towards yes.
Another thing that was unusual was *SPOILER* people cheering when nina said she's going back to stanford... i mean that's great and all, but I've just never heard people cheer at the moment before *END SPOILER*
Lotto, as mentioned, was insanely packed... it's ridiculous, I might have to come to terms with the fact that I will never be able to see this show again (I'm kidding of course, but its going to be a LOT harder to win, and tickets are being sold out, which is great for them, but sucks for those of us who want tickets lol)
Also Piragua guy had an incredible riff tonight, it was fierce. Good job Eliseo!!
haha anakela, i took a pic of that too! Amazing.
<-- Gwen Stewart, SOLoist at the last show of RENT Cages or wings?
Which do you prefer?
Ask the birds.
Fear or love, baby?
Don't say the answer
Actions speak louder than words.
(Tick, Tick... BOOM!)
That picture is awesome Anakela. I was watching parts of the Tonys over with my friend today and we watched Lin's speech... I started cracking up again when I heard that part!
So glad to hear such great things about tonight. And Mealz... I think I remember the audience cheering at that part the last time I saw the show. It may vary from night to night.
<< Also Piragua guy had an incredible riff tonight, it was fierce. Good job Eliseo!! >> OH YES !!! I was hoping that I wasnt the only one that noticed that !! He changed it up a little (during the reprise)
I was sitting there going... "wow!" - Sounded soooo good !!
Dont know how I fell about the "Irish" thing--- just sounded too weird.
Also Piragua guy had an incredible riff tonight, it was fierce. Good job Eliseo!!
Hee- he actually did that riff (for those not there- he riffs the "way" in Piragua (reprise)) on Saturday night too, so I got all excited that he did it again. And totally thanks him for doing it again afterwards. :)
I'd forgotten about the Stanford applause! I thought it was sweet- yes random, I too have never heard applause there any other time I've been to Heights, hee, but sweet.
I was worried that people were going to applaud after Alabanza, which is the one that should *not* be applauded after (I actually feel that way about Sunrise too (does anyone else?) and some nights it does receive no applause. Last night was not one of those nights, lol), but they did not, so I was fine with the rest of the applause... there was so much energy in the house last night, loved it!!
