As displeased as I am with the price changes over the last 15 years, it’s also a symptom of Broadway prices writ large. My friend and I usually check to see what the value of a seat we get via TDF costs in comparison to full or even standard discount price and, 9 times out of 10, we come out WAY ahead. I would not have been able to see some shows I love dearly if it weren’t for the discount TDF provides.
To give recent context, my seats for CATS: TJB were usually rear orchestra (sometimes better) - often valued at $135-$155. That’s still a $70-$90 savings per performance. While the current price points might be higher, they are ultimately, in my opinion, a good haven for those who resist full price, but also don’t feel like constantly losing the lottery or waking up to go rush.
