i would much rather just have had the cast of glee do this complete with Chord Overstreet in his gold shorts than what this monstrosity will be.
I've been thinking for awhile that maybe the reason I'm so forgiving on to this production is because one my favorites is involved, but I truly don't think that's it. I do think the set looks cheap from what we've seen, but isn't Rocky Horror, in its film incarnation, a parody of cheap B-Movies? I'm not saying that's the reason it looks that way, maybe the set designer was off their rocker, but I feel like the things that are misguided are forgivable, like Rocky's shorts. I think the set works in its favor. Ivy Levan, who I was really convinced I wouldn't like, really hit this out of the park. The overplayed lipsynching was most likely a nod to the camp factor of the piece, which she definitely brought. She brought so much character, and I'm really enjoying her. I think Justice did a great job with Toucha, I LOVE Carney, Milian, and Ashford's take on The Time Warp, and I'm overall very pleased with what I'm seeing, personally. And I've been a fan of this film, and stage show, since before it was appropriate for me to even watch it, so it's not because I've not been exposed to the material beforehand. I know for many of you, the movie in particular is so special to you. But if this remake does anything, it'll get the young kids who had no knowledge of Rocky Horror before hand into the midnight showings. It'll allow them to get to know Tim Curry's Frank, and Susan Sarandon's Janet. This remake, even if it turns out to be horrendous, is doing far more good than bad. Especially with the diverse cast they've selected. I understand the fun in trashing it, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course. I just wanted to say my piece before anything else comes out. Personally, I'm ready to do the time warp again with this cast. If you're not, that's completely acceptable. Also, Nowack, I believe this version is significantly slower, especially compared to the Roxy album, but it's the film arrangement, which was slower, too. (Also, unrelated side note, but I can't believe that Annaleigh is billed fourth, especially before Adam Lambert. That's pretty cool.)

Why don't you tell us what you REALLY think?

Here's the thing about Rocky Horror: the movie looked cheap because it was.
This looks cheap and it's not.

This seems to be making the fatal camp mistake. You can't set out to create camp. Yes, the original movie is considered a camp classic, but it was clearly made with sincerity and love of the material that this really seems to be lacking. When you start out winking at the audience they just get tired of that winking and look for excuses to rip it apart.

These are my sentiments exactly. That and it just looks and sounds terrible.
AEA AGMA SM, I am not sure I agree with "setting out to create camp is a fatal camp mistake". A great example is Scream Queens which is very obviously trying to be campy, but it succeeds. It knows it's pretentious.
My personal issues with this production are difficult for me to explain any better than what folks above have added, but I think it's painful to watch. They're clearly trying too hard, but the vision and conceptualization is just plain wrong. Or not executed the way they wanted.
SCREAM QUEENS in absolutely no way shape or form "succeeds" with that.
Really? *shrug* I quite liked it, lol. With the exception of Lea Michelle.

I've just taken the time to listen to this and............I think it's quite bad. I don't like her voice, it's uninteresting. The song's arrangement sounds more pop-music-like, and I don't like it. I'm trying to be positive about this remake but ugh, it's so...ugh.

I" feel like because of how far we've come with the understanding of gender identity since the show was created, it doesn't need to be as clear cut as male or female necessarily, but I'd like to hear what the creative team says. Because if Frank is a female, they'd need to change "I'm not much of a man" to actually fit what Frank is singing about in Sweet Transvestite. Otherwise, it doesn't...really make sense. I'm just glad they didn't change the lyrics."
This "Rocky Horrible" is going to be a train wreck. I can't even begin to list the reasons why. Some things are better left alone. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Forgive me for a second post so quickly since my last, but it's Sunday morning and I'm having my coffee and reading this thread.
The original RHPS movie was low budget and they had limited time so they had to just get it done. Sometimes when movies are made like that you either get a complete mess, or if the stars align and there's magic in the material and players you get something special. RHPS turned out to be something special that no one saw at first, but suddenly grew into something bigger than I'm sure anyone would have dreamed. You can't create lightning in a bottle (re: Shock Treatment). 20th Century Fox, Lou Adler and the director Kenny Ortega may be trying to bring RHPS to a new audience, but what they have been showing in these clips is a plasticized, squeaky clean, family friendly, auto-tuned, unsexy, charmless production. RHPS was a beacon in the pre-internet days for anyone who felt like an outsider. It was a place I could go to meet other gay guys, or just people who didn't fit in the mainstream. Those people (and eventual real life friends) at those midnight screenings were the first people I ever felt comfortable with and could be authentic. This was way back in 1988 when I was 20. So, like many others, I feel VERY protective of the original RHPS film. Like in a post in this thread I wrote a few weeks ago, in the original there are fat people, skinny people, old, young, short and tall. Not all the actors and actresses are models. Some are just plain. The film showcased people that looked like the audience. The term "Don't Dream It, Be It" meant something. It meant if you are a freak, or plain, or not glamorous, you can make yourself into whatever you want to be. Look at the clips for this new film. Everyone is young and thin, in good shape. Even "Brad" is buff. He's supposed to be a skinny nerd! I just can't say enough of how I am just bothered by remakes of things that don't need remaking. End of rant.
The tagline for this piece of crap should be - "Don't Dream It Tweet It"
I disagree that you can't set out to create camp. Camp almost by definition is intentional. But I agree that constantly winking at the audience can be abhorrent. There's a fine line between the two that the best camp manages not to cross.
Any hints appreciated on how to view those first 5mins here in Australia--copywrite blocked for some reason.
Thanks in advance from Sweetlips........x

I believe it's been blocked for everyone.
Thanks--I'll be patient and hopefully buy the DVD---just watched last night the original that and bought back memories of being directed by Jim Sharman as an 'extra' in his very controversial Austn.Opera production of Don Giovanni. He set it on a chess board--that rake was hell moving pieces around.
Jim is still directing, with controversy, and [gossip],believe was recently 'let go' when wanting to drastically add to and change a much loved and perfect musical recently revived on Broadway and opening next year in Austtralia.
If it's the show I think you're talking about HOW DARE HE. haha
Having seen that, I wont waste my time with any more. Wow, is she BAD!
One has to wonder if they released it purely to show the song isn't being censored like it was on GLEE.
Well, there was that (ridiculous) rumor that the song was changed to Sweet Transgender, so you could be on the money there. Although I do really enjoy listening to the Glee version, because hearing the song sung to its full potential is exciting, "sensational Transylvania" is perhaps one of the most clunky lyrics I've ever heard.

I don't know that I would call her bad. She is certainly different than what I am used to hearing in the role though.
