With the announcement of him as Wonka, I'm curious to hear his vocal skills. I wonder what theatre roles on stage he'd be good to bring in.
-Like as much as I would like to see him in TOMMY I think it needs like a Harry Styles.
- I wonder how he'd fair in BYE BYE BIRDIE or a SECRET GARDEN Revival... or in PRINCESS BRIDE

I had tickets to see him in 4000 Miles at The Old Vic in May of 2020. The Old Vic still maintains that they're committed to putting that on one day...probably just waiting for his schedule to clear.
He's also won a Lucile Lortel Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for Prodigal Son.
I'd imagine that he wants to start diving back into theater, he'll do at least a couple plays before he'd feel comfortable doing a musical. He's talked before about how he loved the work he got to do in Prodigal Son but that it was discouraging to perform it to extremely homogenous audiences, many of whom slept through it.

The Old Vic finally announced its new season and "4000 Miles" isn't part of it... I don't think I got a refund on my tickets, did you?

I still haven't! But they have clarified here that they won't produce it "before Summer 2022" https://www.oldvictheatre.com/your-visit/postponed-cancelled-performances
Even if it ends up falling through, I don't mind my tickets being a temporary loan for the theater.

As I said in the other thread, I like Chalamee less and less the more things I see him in, and I don't think he has much range. That said, I still think he has talent, and I think he'd be great in:
-This is Our Youth / maybe some other Kenneth Lonergan stuff
-Arcadia, as Septimus, depending on the quality of his accent
-Glass Menagerie, as the Gentleman Caller (I know, I know, he's too famous for it, but I think he's better for that role than he is for Tom)
-Iceman Cometh, as Parritt
-The Sound Inside, as the kid - actually, this role would be pretty perfect for him.
-The Seagull, as Konstantin
-Death of a Salesman, as Biff
There are several Shakespeare roles that would be good for him on paper, except that his performance in "The King" (which was dumbed-down Shakespeare) was dreadful. He clearly had no clue what any of his lines meant. Maybe with a good director.

He'd be a perfect Dauphin in GOODTIME CHARLEY (the Joel Grey part) if anyone had the gumption to revive it in honor of the late great Anne Reinking.

I would actually like to see him as Ken in RED and Rothko played DeNiro

Chalamet has sung on film and played Oscar in his high school production of SWEET CHARITY.

I've said a couple of times to people who might actually be able to do something about it that he would make a great Claude in Hair.

10 years ago he would have been a shoo-in for the "How To Succeed..." revival.

^That's a good one too.
Also, if (and I do mean IF) he were up to the task vocally, I would also suggest Pippin, and maybe Orpheus in Hadestown

Pippin is an inspired choice. I know it'll never happen, but he would be great in the off-Broadway Little Shop.

Unlikely. He would have been 16 with the face and body of a 12 year old.

I had the same first thought, but I think sbflyfan meant to imply that Chalamet would've been his current age in 2011, in this imaginary scenario.

Oh please, no. There is no role I can imagine him playing in The Princess Bride.

I think he could be an interesting enough choice for the emcee in a Cabaret revival.

I think he'd make a delightful Arthur in "Camelot"--hear me out--they usually cast age downward; an older guy who has to play the juvenile Arthur who meets his Guenevere (Chalamet is past that age already). Plus, there is no real indication of how many years really pass between the opening scene and when Arthur loses his kingdom (and Guenevere). Anyway, it would be wonderful to see him mature before our eyes; to watch him BECOME a king. And I believe he is great enough an actor to pull it off. Plus, the role isn't a chore to sing.

Pippin does seem like a good possibility for him.
I wonder if he has an Angels in America role in him somewhere, although it may be some time before we see it mounted again.
Maybe one of the brothers in Floyd Collins? I'd really like to see that on a stage again.
Clifford Anderson in Deathtrap?

I know that it was done fairly recently, but I would LOVE to see another Equus revival, with Timothee as Alan. And it would certainly sell a lot of tickets for... obvious reasons.
And I know The King wasn’t fairly successful, but I feel like in the hands of a skilled-enough director he could be a great Hal if they should decide to revive Henry IV at any point in the near future- which I think they most definitely should (and fit someone like Nathan Lane or John Goodman in as Falstaff). Lucas Hedges at Hotspur? I’m getting ahead of myself here...

The first roles that came to mind for me were Dennis in THIS IS OUR YOUTH and Billy in Edward Albee’s THE GOAT. Maybe even Michal in THE PILLOWMAN. And I know he’s not a trained dancer but I always thought he would have made a great Riff in Spielberg’s WSS. His mother was a Broadway Dancer and he did train as kid. Definitely not a Mile Faist dancing wise but I think he could have acted the hell out of that role, IMHO.
