From friends in the show, aside from last night, the show has been filmed in full once before so there are now 2 full films of the entire show.  This first filming is what was used for the KEEPING COMPANY WITH SONDHEIM documentary as well as in the B-Roll footage.

I thought they brought the rain back because they were filming for TOFT and they wanted the "original" version of the show to be taped.

As far as I know, this video will not be restricted in any way (that is, no advance permission will be necessary), but if I hear otherwise in the days to come I will post about it here. This production of Company was not previously taped by TOFT, despite efforts to record it earlier in the run. Long story.

Whatever the reason, I'm grateful it was the night I had a ticket, since I got upgraded.  Though in the moment it was a bit "What the Heck!?"  I went through the metal detectors, then my ticket was scanned, then suddenly someone is there saying please Sir come with me.  I thought I failed the metal detector or something & was being hauled away, LOL.

Such a fantastic show.  Incredible how these actors can bring such a fresh take on a script we think we know...  especially thinking about Jennifer Simard in the whole scene leading up to "The Little Things You do Together."  And Katrina Lenk...Wow!  I felt she brings so much to a character who is so often played as a cypher.  I suppose the powers that be decided she already got a Tony not too long ago.  As I was watching her, I got to thinking that if anyone ever did a biographical musical about Marlene Dietrich, Ms Lenk could tackle that quite successfully.

How would that be possible? I would assume they disabled the system long ago, and removed from their cues.

This would be a very serious mistake if true, and possibly dangerous if unexpected.

I was rewatching the documentary this morning, and that footage really is lovely. Would be stellar if things aligned further down the road for it to be released/aired in some capacity.

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

If it was a mistake, which I do not believe, it would require several steps to get there.  You’d have to set the effect and cue it.  I am more inclined to believe that it was back because they were filming, and with it being the last weekend they didn’t have to consider the long-term technical issues the rain was causing before.

Curious to see if it happens again tonight!

I would love someone to dish on all the set issues for this show one day. In fact, between the pandemic, Sondheim’s death, the NYtimes review, the Tony wins etc. I feel there must be enough stories for someone to write a decent book or series of articles about this show!

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

It’s nothing really that juicy!  It’s a very complicated (and dangerous) set that had a lot of safeties on it due to how complex it was.  Most of the set problems were safety sensors being triggered and the show rightfully stopping itself.  Which means the highly complicated set was working properly , in a way!

Exactly.  There is zero chance that this was a mistake.

Sure. Someone prepped the water, checked the system before places, turned on the effect, turned off it’s e-stop, programed it back into the shows cueing computers, cued it up, asked Katrina to revert back to her old blocking, changed the show lights for the effect, and then turned it on by accident.
