Last year’s ceremony they only gave shows nominated for best revival/musical performance slots. They ultimately allotted Stereophonic time after some backlash. I suspect they’ll be similarly stringent this year. I can’t see R&J performing since it wasn’t even nominated for best score. Its main star, Rachel Zegler, will also be unavailable.

Operation Mincemeat will probably perform "Born to Lead" like they did at the Oliviers, although a slightly truncated version of "Making a Man" might also be a good idea to show unfamiliar audiences what the show is about.
I don't necessarily think they'll exclude non Best Musical nominees from performing, because that would mean excluding Jonathan Groff, and they'd never purposefully do that - I think a Groff Bobby Darrin medley is likely, and I'd like to see Boop! represented, maybe with a performance of "Where I Wanna Be".
Buena Vista Social Club will probably be a medley.
I could also see them doing a Charles Strouse performance for the In Memorium.

DBH has been reliably doing "If You Want Perfection" and "So Tell Me, Ernest" for events, but it'd be nice to see them switch it up to showcase both their leading ladies better.

Have Audra and Nicole sing “Alive Forever,” cowards. Let’s go full camp!

I think Sunset will do a truncated Sunset with the outside walk into As If Never Said Goodbye

There really isn't a lot of space for non-nominated shows so I wouldn't expect Boop or anything like that. I do think we could get a Just in Time performance though because of the Jonathan Groff of it all and it being well known material

Doesn’t it cost like $250k to perform on the Tonys?
Posted: 5/17/25 at 2:50pm
I'm thinking the show is going to begin with a riff on "Sunset Boulevard" street walk with either Tom Francis or Cynthia Erivo doing it, or both together. But I think their tony performance will feature Nicole singing one of the two big numbers. If the producers of Gypsy were smart they would have Audra do "Rose's Turn" especially after that nytimes article. I would love to see both Jasmine and Johnathan perform. Personally, I would love to see some scenes from the plays, but I don't think that will happen.

Ken Davenports kickstarter campaign sought to raise $200k. That was pre-covid and nearly 10 years ago, so I’d venture it’s even more now. Probably closer to $500k.

Kickstarter for what specifically?

I thought everyone knew about this, lol. Davenport launched a kickstarter to help raise money for the Spring Awakening Tony performance in 2016.

If Boop performs and they don't do at least an abridged version of “Where’s Betty?” with the costume changes and big Radio City video screen behind them - what even is the point lol

I'm curious about Maybe Happy Ending, which number (s) they will perform. I suspect they don't want to offer too many spoilers - it's a show with heart-stopping revelations sprinkled through the unfolding story - and wonder if they might splice together two of the the three versions of the road trip song, "Hitting the Road." It's got an infectious earworm of a melody, and would cut well.

I'd love for Real Women Have Curves to get a box office bump with a performance of the title tune. They are up for best score...

To be fair it was almost a decade ago and was kind of inside baseball even then.
Still one of the shadiest and most misleading publicity stunts in the industry in recent memory, though.

I’m guessing “Alive Forever” for Death Becomes Her— maybe paired with a truncated version of one of Viola’s numbers to add context at the start.
I could maybe see them doing “Hit Me” because it has gone pretty viral, but there are so many visual gags that I could see them not wanting to spoil (even though they’ve all been recorded and posted online at this point)

I wouldn’t mind a “God That’s Brilliant”.

Is there any novelty in re-assembling the OBC of Hamilton (sans Ramos, it appears?) If they think this is a big “get”, I don’t think it will have the impact they want imo.
The cast seems to be together so often, and the live-capture released 5 years ago + winning the Tony 9 years ago makes the show seem more recent than 10 years ago.

If the Tonys seeks to nail two career high performances for posterity, "Rose's Turn" and "When Glory Goes" would be highlights of this telecast or any other. I just saw Jordan (again) yesterday afternoon and he's leaving it all on the stage in the best sense. I fear both shows might opt for more upbeat numbers, "Together" to include Burstein and - well, there's no upbeat number in Floyd Collins that represents the show (Arguably, a truncated version of "The Riddle Song"
, and I fear a medley - the "Ballad" and snippets - will not serve Guettel or the company.

Fingers crossed we get a madcap medley from Mary Todd Lincoln.
Posted: 5/29/25 at 12:41pm
I hope we don't get a Maybe Happy Ending medley. They should just do the opening number, which works in isolation, gives you a flavor for what the show is about (and how the cool the set is), and showcases their one nominated performer. It's also one of the best songs in the show in my opinion.

I agree 100% about MHE. That opener is simply a stunner. So much exposition is handled artfully, and in about 5 minutes we are deeply connected to the stakes and the subtheme of abandonment. As Oliver waits for word from James, our hearts already break. And the orchestration captures the emotional depth. I think it's a perfect song.
