But at this point in its run, Waitress box office receipts reveal it needs a star attraction as Jenna to sell tickets at a profitable rate. If it is going to close anyway, they should give it to Torns. She has earned it. But if they want to keep it running, theyll need another Jenna that can attract tourists and repeat visits."
Yeah, I fear this year might be it’s last. I know Sara is badging her appearance as a year 3 special treat thing, but we all know she came in to give the box office a needed boost. I just can’t see who is a big enough name going forward that would not only be available but also has the chops for the role of Jenna. I mean, maybe Lea Michele (even though I know that might not be well received here lol) could bring people in, but she doesn’t seem interested right now in taking on a broadway role. Kat McPhee is tied up with the London production, otherwise I coulda seen her coming back for another stint. Anna Kendrick apparently pulled out according to sources here. Who else is there? The longer the show runs and the less buzzy is becomes as a result, the harder it also is to attract the big names.
Does anyone know how expensive Waitress is to run? I can’t imagine, relatively speaking, it is one of the more expensive broadway productions?
My personal guess is after Sara they are going to run a month with Torns or another smaller name as Jenna, and if it can sty afloat, maybe they can grab a name for spring and summer and close it up on Labor Day or early August, by guess is this is their last big get though, unless Sara comes to close the show in a few weeks. My guess is an April closing around the same time as Kinky Boots.
Torns has earned it if the show needs to close with her.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Meghan Linsey posted the screenshot of the US Weekly article on her SUTBM cover on IG randomly today. Hope she's finally playing the role as she apparently was to replace Jessie

Nice! Unless they get a name for the Spring, it should close with Torns.

I’m hoping it means that she is taking over, but it could also just be that she’s rehearsing with him in The mean time.

I think that poster was looking at this video which I don’t agree hints at anything.

This makes sense to me, it would also mark the 3 year anniversary of the show, so wouldn't be a bad time to wrap it up. Announce it a week or two after Sara leaves, then hopefully capitalize on everyones last chance to see it.
I find it hysterical that every time a cast member changes and/or they have an end date scheduled, its going to be the closing date for the show.
So far, in the last 6 months, its been predicted that Waitress will close at the end of summer 2018, when Nicolette leaves in the fall, at the end of the year, when Sara leaves after her month run in Jan , when Joey leaves after his two month run, and now when new Ogie leaves (Ive probably missed a prediction or two). I mean seriously... its going to close when it closes. Not every casting notice means more than what it is.

^I actually asked Diana in a Live she did on Instagram about the idea of her as Jenna or Dawn in Waitress and she made a comment that made it sound like she'd auditioned but just hadn't booked it. Her comment was something like "It's not for lack of trying" which to me makes it sound like she's gone in, but not gotten it.
I would love to see Diana as either Dawn or Jenna, but I feel like she'd be better overall as Dawn.
