They never stopped selling tickets even when the original closing date was announced.

I feel like a high school aged child could see the play but I'm not sure if a school group would bring them unless they were older and/or they were confident parents wouldn't complain. Like, if you had a teenager, you could take them to the show, but trying to distribute tickets to college-aged kids makes more sense. Also, a lot of the references might be too old for them to pick up on.
The complaint about "message plays" is odd when LEOPOLDSTADT is very successful and also a "message play" about the effect of anti-Semitism on multiple generations of a Jewish family.

I'm not gonna elaborate on this much, but let's say that a little birdie told me that there have been a lot of google forms going to one or two specific universities in NYC on a weekly basis so that the younger audience can sit in the seats as long as they can get there that night and "fly" to the theatre on time. So it seems this already has been done to some degree
How amatuerish and unprofessional would it be if they just keep doing one week extension through February?!?!

What exactly does it mean when they say "(insert celebrity name here) buys out a performance"? Are they purchasing all the remaining tickets for said performance? Do they give the tickets away?

For the person earlier in the thread who was questioning whether The Piano Lesson was selling comparably to Leopoldstadt...last week TPL outgrossed Leopold, for what it's worth.
From what I've been seeing, Jordan Cooper's Instagram story has pop up links to get free tickets for those who want to see/can't afford to see. He gave away Wednesday's matinee. I'd pay attention to that space to when he drops a link for them.

Shocked they didn't extend one more week. Christmas week is typically a money-maker for almost every show.

Went last night and the house was packed to the rafters it seemed. Last nights performance was truly how it should’ve felt all along - with the audience being the seventh cast member laughing, shouting, hooting, and hollering. Everyone was on their A-Game, especially Marchant Davis, who got a Standing O as the Pastor and really milked that scene for all the ad-libs and Crystal Lucas-Perry as “Black”, got also got a Standing O for that whole scene.
Jordan delivered a powerful speech about breaking down doors and creating new spaces for BIPOC theatre and a little history of the Belasco about how the balcony used to be for colored people only with its own separate entrance.
Many Broadway stars in the audience - including Sara Ramirez, Patina Miller, John-Michael Lyles, LaChanze and a few others. So sad this closed because last night was a JOURNEY

Glad you were able to go and appreciate the report. That CLP scene alone deserves its own Tony. I carry around maybe 15-20 scenes in my head that stand above all the rest and that's the new one.
