From what I saw last night, Hudgens keeps growing stronger and stronger as both a singer and an actress. Of the females in the cast, she had the greatest vocal control, the fullest voice and was giving the best vocal performance.
What are the odds that she would be a contender for Elphie in the movie?
(Also I'm curious to know if she was at all considered for WSS in conjunction with DeBose?)
I am SO utterly thrilled to see someone on this message board finally recognizing what a force to be reckoned with Vanessa Anne Hudgens is. If Wicked doesn't cast her as Elphaba SOON, I truly believe the production will close.

It's still listed as being released for January 2019, right? I'm afraid we'll be getting an announcement soon of it being pushed back (again).

Sweets, we’re in January 2019. Anyway, WICKED is currently “in development” status so any previously announced release date has been cancelled. Universal is currently filming CATS with Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella, Taylor Swift as Bombalurina and many others and this took over the original intended slot WICKED originally had.

Oops, I meant December 2019 lol- my bad!
On the topic of Cats- I still find some of the casting so odd.

This is a joke, right?
Does she even WANT to play Elphaba??? How do you know they havent approached her and she wasnt interested in being the billionth belter to play her.
As to Wicked closing if she doesn't soon get cast....nvm, I just can't.
Between her and Ariana Grande (there has been rumors), I would pick Vanessa everyday. She is a force and can actually ACT.

I love Vanessa, but I think their best bet is to hold auditions and cast Elphaba with an unknown while using big names as the supporting cast.
Vanessa is great at acting and singing for sure but I think she'll be a little nasally for Elphaba.

For Elphaba and Glinda I think they should cast a Wicked Name for one of them and for the other a Hollywood or TV Actress.
- Rachel Tucker and Dove Cameron
- Vanessa Hudgens and Megan Hilty
- Eden Espinosa and Anneliese van der Pol

I really hope the West Side Story movie blows Cats away, in terms of success and ticket sales.
This will show the world that casting talented unknowns suitable for a role brings in more money than so called fleeting names.

I agree with the first part, there are much better, more suitable girls for the role out there.
Disagree with the last part, real talent and quality doesn't need names, they will become names.
Wicked doesnt have to cast names in the show now...or likely ever. The thousands of people that but tix every week want to see Wicked.
Nothing drives up the weekly expenses faster than hiring "a name".
There's also the issue of ages: Elphaba and Glinda begin the show age 18-20 (Fiyero likely a little older), and a relatively significant amount of time passes from there, likely a matter of some years. So you have characters aging possibly a decade or more through the plot- Hudgens is too old for Act 1 and possibly too young for Act 2.
These things wouldn't matter much on stage, but on camera certainly would.

We've found something we agree on, dramamama! This is such a ridiculous comment. I can't either.

Considering that her whole skin must be painted, I think Vanessa could pull off the young and old looks.
That said, I don't think she has the kind of 'fuller' voice that I prefer to hear Elphaba's part sung on and I can't imagine her Defying Gravity going well, but I would gladly pay to be proven wrong.

Vanessa is growing into a great performer, the only issue I have is that she has a tad too much nasality in her voice when she is sustaining longer notes that she seems to have developed from an early age when singing. There is strength but her technique needs some fine tuning, she is very talented though.
Her voice in my opinion was stronger and more suited to Rizzo than Maureen, I think Chicago would be a good fit for her and I expect its going to be lined up as a future live TV musical.

^ I think Chicago would be impossible to do when its been running on Broadway for over 20 years.
I’m sure after RENT: Live!, Vanessa is now on producer Marc Platt’s list for potential Elphaba in the film adaptation of WICKED. If she is, I’m sure he’ll make efforts to elevate her name credibility to merit the A-List cast the pending film adaptation of WICKED is aiming for.
Kinda like what happened to Anthony Ramos and the upcoming film adaptation of IN THE HEIGHTS. Though he was already on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s radar, the instant success of the A STAR IS BORN remake qualified his rising star potential and he was quickly confirmed as Usnavi for the film. All involved are hoping his name credibility continues to rise so the IN THE HEIGHTS film will be bigger than anticipated.

Ramos has such a small role in A Star is Born. Pretty unmemorable, in my opinion.
