Im ready for this show to be revived.......I think it would do very well if its done right. I heard that it was coming back in 2005 and I saw the poster for it also.
I hope people aren't turned away from it because of the movie...the play is nothing like the movie.......I don't know why Sidney Lumet did that.
I wish this show would come back. Does anyone agree?
Agreed.
there have been rumors that heather headley is being considered - any info?
Please let Brenda Braxton be in this!
They NEED one of the trio from little shop in it!!

top picks for Dorothy for me -- Anika Noni Rose, Dequina Moore, Sasha Allen.
Too bad it's on the shelf for now.
I am waiting for Stephanie Mills to be dorothy wearing corrective red shoes
OOOOH Anika Noni Rose would be fab! I saw the movie of The Wiz and hated it with a passion. My Junior year of High School we put it on, and I didn't try out because I hated the show. But to my suprise, the actual musical was nothing like the movie. I really liked it!

VERY true. The stage version and that movie are TOTALLY different. I LOVE the Wiz on stage.

Heather Hedley needs to be Dorothy.
I saw a clip of her singing Home at Nothing Like a Dame and, although she totally messed up the words, it was excellent.
Can someone who saw her concert or bought the DVD from the FleaMarket verify...

Heather?!? NO WAY! She is WAY to old for the role. Dorothy has to be young/play in order for it to work. The character is 16. heather can NOT pull that off.
SAw the original 3 times and met Stephanie Mills before a matinee. Love this show and can't wait for a revival. I have heard the Anika Noni Rose has said that she will not be doing it.
Let's not make her sixteen at all! Let's make her a whiny, shy schoolteacher! That'll work!

BG2, DON'T SHOOT!
Way back in another post, I said I thought Heather was too old to do Dorothy, and then people jumped all over me for being ign'ant and I got a mini-lecutre on how Dorothy doesn't need to be the cute, little girl from OZ.
So in conclusion, Borstal, hahahahaha, agree.
It just worked so well, how can they NOT?

Dorothy DOES have to be youn.. otherwise, it doesn't work at all.
Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod. I am so ready for this revival it is not even funny. The Wiz is up there in my favorite shows of all time and I have spent many a drunken night dream casting this thing if they ever FINALLY get the revival off the ground. Here's who I got:
Dorothy: Anika Noni Rose, Sasha Allan (both considered for the role)
Addapearle, the Feel Good Girl: Mary Bond Davis, Loretta Devine, Lillias White
Scarecrow: Darius De Haas
Tin Man: no idea really but for some reason I picture Ben Vereen
Lion: Billy Porter
The Wiz: Billy Porter or Andre 3000 (yeah, like he would do Broadway but you never know)
Evillenve: Jennifer Holiday, Lillias White, or Patti LaBellie
Glinda the Good: Audra McDonald, Vanessa L. Williams
Aunt Em: Same performer as Glinda the Good
So, that's who I hve in mind right now as I drink a toddy and wait for my roommate to get home.

I am so selfish, I do not want the Wiz to come out now cause I wanted it to come out when I was old enough to audition for The Wizard, but anyway. ( I did The WIZ and I was the WIZARD) If its an all black cast, i cant be in it, well
im hispanic, i could pass....
If this show comes out, please, please, please, please
drop that school teacher! I know the original was totally different than the movie (I did the Original script) but they might dare to keep Dorothy 25yrs. This is a great production, if they do it right! I just want to see how they attempt THE TORNADO, my favorite song/scene in the whole production.
As hard as it is to admit, I am totally ready for the revival
( I know somebody that is going to audition for THE WIZARD )
PS- Unmasked05 - where did you see the poster, is it online?

The production I saw the Wizard was a total flame. Is this how it's usually done???
I like the poster.

When I first auditioned for THE WIZ, I didnt even want to be the WIZARD because I thought I was just going to be a voice-over. Thought in many productions this is how the wizard carracter is portrayed. When I did THE WIZ, I came out in a costume all and was face to face with Dorothy and the other "riff raffs" (The Wiz Movie quote) I think the way you are talking about, might be the way it will be done. It was like that in THE WIZARD OF OZ and even in WICKED, the wizard was a head for quite some time in the play. I didnt see THE WIZ on broadway, so i dont really know.
no, no, no I mean in the production of THE WIZ I saw he came out wearing a pink boa and a lepord skin coat with a zebra printed hat... he was gay. Is this how it's always done in THE WIZ???

Well, as a person that played THE WIZARD, he is kinda fruity. Well my costume when I first come out I wore green pants, a neon green button shirt, green hat, a light green cape and green beads around my neck, and also which is important, an emerald cut ring.
In the scene where Dorothy "discovers" me. I was in a green bath robe, pink shower cap and pink slippers.
THE WIZARD is all over himself, so thats how many can inturpret the wiz as high maintenance. This character can be played variuos ways to the liking of the director and the actor, but i guess its safe to say that the WIZARD is played "gayish"
PS- where did u see the poster????
