My first thought after I read the article
I really hope this doesn't mean we're going to have to sit through Ariana Grande singing Defying Gravity.

Now that is something I am setting on my DVR. Should be awesome especially when we got Elsa and Maleficebt co hosting. Disney joke intended

Anyone have an idea how to grab tickets?
NBC frequently uses https://1iota.com/ and http://on-camera-audiences.com/ so I would keep an eye out there.

How would it have not been intended?

It was a joke referring to Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth

Can we asume that Grande will be playing Elphaba in the movie version??

My question is why are they using the Marquis Theater, when they can either film it at an actual concert hall, or use the Gershwin? Considering the set of Wicked (By Set I mean the Dragon Clock setup and bubble), is on par with Phantom's chandelier or Miss Saigon's Helicopter I wonder what they are going to do for a set.

From what I understood it's not going to be a concert of the whole show, and there's not going to be a set. It's simply a ~90 min TV special with selections from the show sung by various artists.

It's a better use of the space than mindlessly putting Tootsie there. it is probably a multiple-day setup which would interfere with the Gershwin
Plus, filming/taping this and getting it rehearsed will interfere with the reality that WICKED is currently playing at the Gershwin Theatre and still performing 8 times a week. The Marquis Theatre is vacant right now so they can set-up cameras and equipment and leave them there until after fllming/taping unlike at the Gershwin Theatre where they would have to remove everything every day due to WICKED performances.
Beyond excited for this! Really hope I can grab a ticket to see this live.
I think it's almost safe to assume that Ariana will have some involvement in the film version. She'd be perfect for Glinda, rather than Elphaba.
The background oos and aaahs in this announcement video is making me LMAO. They're so cheesy - https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/NBC-Will-Broadcast-WICKED-Concert-to-Celebrate-15th-Anniversary-20180927
I didn't care for Ariana's Penny Pingleton much. She was serviceable in what should have been a much more memorable role. Galinda is a beast. Don't think she's right for the part, but what do I know. I'm just a crazy theater lover.
Arianna would be a decent choice for Nessarose at a push but she shouldn't ever come close to playing either Glinda or Elphaba.

If they don't let Idina perform Defying Gravity in the original key, I'm rioting.
People keep saying Ariana is involved because she’s doing the film - but I think her involvement is due to 1) she has a new album and she’s keeping up her professional exposure, and 2) she did the pop radio cover of Popular a few years ago.
I think the reason the pop artists are involved is to draw viewers to the special. It certainly does fuel the rumors that Ariana will be involved in the movie.
Maybe they’re planning on having Ariana play Morrible when they finally start filming.

They want Ariana for the ratings. I wouldn’t read into it any deeper than that. They’ll heavily advertise her involvement and then when it airs, before each commercial, they’ll keep saying how her performance is “coming up” to keep people tuned in.

I think she has just been incredibly vocal about her love for the show but that doesn't translate to a casting. Also, I'm really in favor of them casting an unknown, rather than her or (who many people have dreamt cast but PLEASE NO) Lea Michele. Just because people are talented, have a Broadway/performance background, does not mean they are right for a role. I'm praying neither of them are in this. Of course I want them to have work, but there's other things they can do.
