Hey, guys. I know there has already been a thread about this, but I can't find it, so I'm reposting it. Does anyone know any secrets about the score of WICKED? I know a few, such as the "Unlimited" theme, that re-occurs a few times throughout the show, is the same 7 notes as the first 7 notes of "somewhere over the rainbow". Also, In "The Wizard and I", when Elphie says about a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with her, she is referring to the celebration of her death. Anything else? Thanks guys!
They all die in the end.
It is a circular plot structure...the show starts and ends in the same place time wise. Also the entire show with the exception of No One Mourns the Wicked takes place within a TV screen, aka the Dragon Clock.
On the last thing you said, she does not know it will be her apparent demise, it's actually quite an ironic statement.
Also, In "The Wizard and I", when Elphie says about a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with her, she is referring to the celebration of her death.
That's a secret?
Yes.
Shhhhhhhhhhh.
The score was actually written by Stephen Sondheim, but as a favor Sondheim let Schwartz claim credit.
That would be NO favor.
I can't believe you can't ONE single thread without searching. They were countless.

It has an incredibly dense orchestration, which I think is just amazing. Wicked isn't my favourite musical and I don't htink it's the best out there, but I do really enjoy it (I've seen it live 3 times and several bootlegs). Just to clarify something that you said, Elphaba is not actually referring to her death. It's a moment of dramatic irony when we know that they are celebrating her death, but she's thinking they're going to celebrate her greatness. I'm not sure if you want spoilers, or little things that not everyone who's seen it would know
...SPOILER ALERT... SPOLIER ALERT... SPOLIER ALERT...
You never see Dorothy, just her silhouette.
Boq is the The Tin Man. Elphaba casts the spell to do this to save him after Nessa accidently shrinks his heart. Nessa resents Elphaba after this and completely turns against her, even though she already disliked her. This plot is invented for the musical, but reading the novel (BEFORE THE MUSICAL WAS MADE), I always got the impression that somehow Boq was The Tin Man.
Nessa is The Wicked Witch of the East. The shoes were hers to begin with.
Elphaba turns Fiyero into The Scarecrow to save him from being beaten to death.
In the musical, Elphaba doesnt die. In the book, its debatable.
Glindas original name is Galinda. But Dr. Dillamond never pronounced the fist a, so in honor of his passing (in the book he is killed by a Tik-Tok robot), she changes her name to Glinda.
In the musical, Dr. Dillamond is not killed. He just loses his ability to speak.
I think that sufficiently covers everything and ruins the show!
Those sure are some interesting secrets that aren't blatantly exposed and explained visually and textually, DEClarke. Cool stories.
Some people claim that Wicked is somehow connected to the Wizard Of Oz. I don't see it.
I was under the impression it was the Hulk prequel...pre sex change. That's part of the story right?

You must have not read the novel all that closely, since there is a scene, after Dorothy's arrival, where Elphaba visits Boq after the death of Nessa.
The green elixir is actually a glowstick.
Elphaba is actually blue cuz she's an Avatar, but lighting makes her look green. Shhhhh don't tell anyone.
