So tomorrow I'm thinking of seeing this, now that I'm gonna be Uptown at the Flea Market I might as well check it out.
I don't know ANYTHING about Star Wars, will that in any way effect my experience?

I knew very little about Carrie Fisher and virtually nothing about Star Wars when I saw it last year at Arena Stage in DC. I don't know if that impacted my view of the show for the worse, but I was not as enamored with it as the rest of the audience it seemed. They ate it up. I give her credit- she was extremely engaging, filled the theatre, and her material was mostly accessible at a fundamental level even if I did not know all of the names she dropped. She does have an interesting story to tell- it just wasn't a story that moved me.
I cant say anything for the show but I read the book (Which people tell me is almost a script of the show) and I think you should check it out.
I am NOT a star wars fan at all. I have seen the movies, once, very very long ago and would not consider myself a fan. The only other movie I ever remember seeing Carrie Fisher in was "When Harry met Sally".
The only thing I felt in the book you really needed to know (and I use needed jokingly) was that Carrie Fisher in star wars had "That stupid F***ing hair style".
I was never confused about anything and Star Wars did not overwhelm the book. It was more about her life through triumph and tragedy, and diffrent yet very random events that happend in her life.
I would deffinetly check it out.
Wishful searching!

I saw it recently, and while I didn't have the same reaction as a lot of people had on here; I did enjoy myself. It was fun, and I laughed a good bit. There are parts where it drags, but she's able to hold your attention and she's great with one liners.
It wasn't as hilarious as I'd hoped, but I think that's largely because I'd read enough of her blog/excerpts from her book that I knew the punchlines of a lot of her bits before she got to them. She definitely commands the stage, and her life is absolutely ridiculous, so it makes for compelling theater. In a way, she reminded me of Kathy Griffin if she had a more interesting life but wasn't as adept at quickly turning experiences into "bits."

My wife saw it last night and she's still laughing.
As a fellow drunk I found it absolutely hilarious - I saw it at Berkeley Rep this July.

You don't have to know a thing about Star Wars. This show is just plain funny. I loved it.
Funny, light, and entertaining, but it's really nothing incredible. Definitely the best thing so far this season though.

though very unlikely, could the show be eligible for the best play tony becuase the best special event was eliminated
Yes, jeffmiele. Wishful Drinking would be eligible for Best Play.
I know virtually nothing about Carrie Fisher's life and minimal about Star Wars but I still laughed til I cried and found it fantastic.
DCR, did you end up going? Thoughts?
I had seen it at the first preview and absolutely loved it.

I laughed throughout the whole show, well except for intermission, and recommend it to everyone.
No I didn't go but I think I'm going this Saturday or Friday night. I decided to stay at the Flea Market because the best time is when everyone is at shows and it's emptier. Also I had a bunch of stuff and would not have been comfortable squishing it under a Studio 54 seat.
Saw the matinee today. I think it's the best "New Play" this season on Broadway so far. That being said, it wasn't as funny as it COULD have been. I did like it a lot, but I thought everything could have been tightened a bit. It seemed to drag in certain places where it really didn't half to. That being said, she is one hell of a comedienne.

This show appealed to me until a comparison to Kathy Griffin was made. I cannot stand that woman, so I doubt I'll be parting with any cash for this. Thanks for the heads up!

Wolfpit - the comparison between Kathy Griffin and Carrie Fisher is unfair and incorrect. I am not a fan of Griffin either. Kathy is insulting to all sorts of people and sometimes down right nasty, Carrie is not. The humor, mostly self deprecating, is about her life and times and very funny. It's more than worth the price.
Caught yesterday's matinee and absolutely loved the show. I knew nothing about Carrie Fisher's life and ended up laughing throughout the whole thing. The audience absolutely ate up the show... some 60+ year old man was snorting and yelling at almost every joke.
I would definitely recommend it over almost anything playing on Broadway right now.
No offense but how does one manage to go through life without knowing anything about Star Wars and even a minimal base knowledge of Carrie Fisher? I'm a fan of Kathy Griffin but wouldn't even compare their styles.

Because I've never seen any of the movies. It's not my kind of thing.
You can know about Star Wars, but that doesn't mean you have to actually see them.
It's still etched in pop culture.
And I don't know what business a 14 year old has being at Wishful Drinking anyways.
