Thinking to what the theatre world may look like after reopening, I sincerely think that many producers will look to a Hollywood "name" in hopes of selling a show. I'm curious what roles you would like to see particulars take on in a post Broadway closure
Meryl Streep: Mame, Kiss of the Spider Woman
Julia Roberts: Glass Menagerie
Sandra Bullock:
Cheyenne Jackson: Beauty and the Beast
Ryan Reynolds: The Odd Couple
Timothee Chalamet: Little Night Music, (vocally I don't know if he could do it ) Parade,
Lisa Kudrow: Hello Dolly,
Emma Thompson:
Ian McKellan: Hamlet or King Lear
Dolly Parton: Hello Dolly
Maggie Smith: A German Life
Helen Mirren:

Meryl as Mame is an inspired idea! Although I can't take your suggestion that Ian McKellan take on Hamlet at his current age very seriously. Unless you meant to suggest him as Claudius, but that feels like a waste of such a star talent.
I do think that had Colin Firth agreed to do My Fair Lady he would have been wonderful.
I thought Daniel Radcliffe was wonderful in How to Succeed and I bet he has a great Leo Frank in him, should Parade ever get the revival it deserves.
I will also say that I wish more stars took chances on new plays on Broadway rather than revivals. The next time Denzel Washington comes back to Broadway, how great would it be if his star power drove the success of a new play by Brandon Jacob-Jenkins or Jackie Sibblies Drury? So many of the great playwrighting talents aren't being produced on Broadway because their work isn't seen as commercial. This does happen on occasion (like Chris Rock in Motherf***er With the Hat) but far more often, we see movie stars come to Broadway in revivals of well-worn classics.
I would love to see Emma Stone as Charity in Sweet Charity.

I heard rumblings before the pandemic that Nicole Scherzinger was being courted to open up a new Moulin Rouge production (don’t know where) as Satine. THAT is some good casting.

Funny you should say that, as McKellen was scheduled/announced to play Hamlet in a production last year. Not sure if they still plan to do it at some point.
Ian McKellen to play Hamlet
NICOLE KIDMAN...Sally in FOLLIES!!
Wendi McLendon-Covey in DIRTY BLONDE and/or I’LL EAT YOU LAST.
Kate Winslett or Cate Blanchette for Desiree
Michael Cera as Robbie in “The Wedding Singer” at the Hollywood Bowl would be perfect.

Loretta Swit as Lady MacBeth

I actually think Gaga in Evita would make for sense than Funny Girl personally. I wouldn't mind Enrique as Che.
And Yes! to Cate Blanchett as Desiree!! (If I can't get Julie Andrews in that production, I'll take Chita)
Toni Collette as Mame
Sasha Baron Cohen as Tevye
Richard Madden as Henry II and Kit Harrington as Thomas Becket in Becket

I have a feeling he'll end up playing Tevye in Tommy Kail's new film adaptation. I hope so, anyway.

However, little do most of his fans know, Jackman's earliest breakout roles in acting did not come from clawing up bad guys in the X-Men movies. It came from working on Broadway. omegle chatrandom club

Celine Dion as Donna in "Mamma Mia!"
Her "The Winner Takes it All" would be heavenly.

With regard to the first posting, I don't really need any Hollywood star or celebrity to get me back to the theater once it reopens.
I'm looking more forward to seeing Tony Yazbeck and Carmen Cusack in Flying Over Sunset, or any Broadway star for that matter, in whatever it is they bring to the boards when this awful virus is gone, than I would be seeing Meryl Streep or Julia Roberts in anything.
And once things are up and running again, I'm not one to really need a movie star in a Broadway show to sell it for me anyway.
Timothee Chalamet definitely gives me major Finch vibes and I could see him doing a revival of H2$ since you don’t need super pipes for that roles.
I’d honestly love to see the revue “After Midnight” come back - it was a major showcase for black talent (with some exceptions) back in 2014 and I think a list of solid Special Guest Stars could keep it going like the last production. I could envision people like Andra Day, Janelle Monae, Heather Headley, Jill Scott, Brandy Norwood and Jennifer Hudson each doing a brief residency.

I’d dig Pink or Kelly Clarkson in Next To Normal.

Is it too much to ask they have the acting chops to play the role?
