Although I love the music to CHESS, the show is just so bad and bloody painfully boring. I can't imagine it succeeding unless they reconceive the entire show, which I would love.
Definitely SONG AND DANCE!!!! As long as they don't bring over the crap TELL ME ON A SUNDAY revival from london.

In regards to the Chess story being boring I agree when that statement is applied to teh painfully long Broadway version. The original london version moved quite rapidly and was an incredible production. A few alterations need to be made to the story in the second act but i feel the original version of Chess was the best incarnation thus far(It seems everyone rewrites the show, everytime it is performed). The recent swedish production while incredibly moving in some parts departed way too much from teh original source material ( I loved some of the new music though...especially the stuff with Florence's flashback to tehm taking her father...brilliant). With the right reworking Chess could be spectacular
Master Class? The Terrence McNally play about Maria Callas? It was a huge profitable long-running Tony-winning hit. It ran 20 months which is a very long time for a straight play on Broadway (one of the longest runs for a straight play in the 90s).

Unsinkable Molly Brown Do I Hear a Waltz? Merrily We Roll Along Bounce Parade (!!) Floyd Collins The Wild Party (LaChiusa) A Man of No Importance Caroline, or Change (though it's doing just lovely now!) My Favorite Year Sweet Smell of Success Tap Dance Kid (love me some Henry Krieger) No Strings Mack and Mabel (probably Herman's best IMHO)
I couldn't even begin with plays: there are FAR too many!
Some of these shows being mentioned are ridiculous - many being quite and often overappreciated!
