That last one was my lucky way of getting into a dressing room. Very weird occurrence...walking down the street with my groceries I met up with an actor I'd seen in concert and struck up a conversation with them. Well, the lead came out and we struck up a conversation and they invited me backstage for the day I was seeing the show. Very cool. I went into their dressing room.

"Life is a cabaret old chum, only a cabaret old chum, and I love a cabaret!"-RIP Natasha Richardson-I was honored to have witnessed her performance as Sally Bowles.
A girl I met once told me that one day she waited at the stage door of LITP for like 2 hours, and for some reason something was holding up Aaron Lazar and Kelli O'Hara, but when they finally came out, she was the only one there and they invited her in. Because..she waited in the rain..for 2 hours. Now, I love me some Aaron Lazar and Kelli O'Hara but even I wouldn't do that.
I mean, Denzel Washington? Gun to my head..of course.
welll my dream is to go backstage for Wicked (not the behind the curtain tour) but actually go backstage, or go backstage to Les Mis,GG,MP,B&TB,or Curtains... i love theater and i actually wish to someday be in broadway. i wish i had friends involved with theater (connections) but i don't, which sucks to be me.
Don't worry about it Elphie4ever, one day I'm sure you'll be able to experience it. Summer camps do it sometimes, and you never know when you might get lucky. But if you're a HUGE fan of the show, backstage for Wicked might not be that fun because you can figure out all the tricks that they do, and a girl who was going backstage with me came out of there completely depressed. Not to mention Shoshana Bean looked at her like she was Satan reincarnated, but this girl was pretty weird...
I mean, Denzel Washington? Gun to my head..of course.
I went backstage at Phantom because my mom knows the guy that used to pull the chandelier. I went backstage at the Woman in White and Pirate Queen because my brother knows one of the actors in the ensemble of both shows.
ETA: I've been on the stages as well as behind them. Though I can't imagine going on stage would be cut out of the tour for anyone...
"But I can tell you that Raoul, who was so handsome in "The Phantom," is now a drunken wreck."
Going on the actual stage, for me, is the best part. Because then you're...on a REAL Broadway stage. It always just..GAH. I remember when I got to go on Carnegie Hall stage...all the people that have been there...it gets really surreal for me and then I realize that I'm only there for a tour so I shouldn't start to freak out and cry like a fangirl.
I mean, Denzel Washington? Gun to my head..of course.
As I work back there, I still can't understand the fascination with seeing back stage...
I don't have any urge to see the stock room at the local Star Bucks.

I agree. It is exciting. I'd give ANYTHING to take a peek backstage at a Broadway musical. I'm like Elphie4ever, I have no connections, but dream of someday making it to Broadway.
Once I realized half an hour after Les Mis ended that I'd lost my wallet and probably dropped it while I was at my seat. Rang at the stage door, explained the situation, got taken through backstage to get back to my seat, goggled at the barricade, found my wallet, said hi to a couple actors, and left. I was kind of tempted to ask if I could stop and stare at the sets for a few minutes, but the security dude was in a hurry, so I didn't press it.
Whenever I saw TCP. There were TONS of people at the Stage Door and Fantasia left through a different entrance (to get home to her kid). I had made her this really cool poster that said "The Color Purple Starring Fantasia" her security guard took in for me so she'd get and she wrote me a note saying "Wow-I love it! Thanks so much-God Bless-Tasia"
I've gone backstage and on stage for BIG, which I don't completely remember because I was 6. At Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which was so cool especially since I got to fly in the car. And also at Sweeney Todd where I got a picture with Patti Lupone on the stage.
Ugh. I would love to go backstage on ANY show! I think I'd cry if I ever got to stand on a Broadway stage. I'm already tearing up just from the thought of it. God, I am such a baby.
a girl who was going backstage with me came out of there completely depressed. Not to mention Shoshana Bean looked at her like she was Satan reincarnated, but this girl was pretty weird...
I just found this really funny for some reason, lol.
Theatrediva - you work backstage at Carnegie Hall? lucky..

It was really an amusing time. She was like freaking out because we were able to see you know the bubble and like the platform that raises in "Defying Gravity", and she knew it wasn't like REAL or magic or anything, but I guess she was expecting something different. Totally bummed her out. And what happened with Shoshana is she walked past us, smiled in acknowledgement, and the girl's jaw DROPPEd and was like "Shut it!! Shoshy?" .......
I mean, Denzel Washington? Gun to my head..of course.
I've gone onstage at two different shows. One was because I had come to know a cast member, and the other time was out of sheer luck. I was waiting for a specific cast member and it was cold, so the doorman made me wait inside (with my friend). When the cast member came out, she invited us to go onstage.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

i went backstage at spring awakening. It was my first time backstage at a broadway theater so i was so excited. my friend is in teh cast so she put me on thelist of who to let in. if the cast hs any friends coming to the show that they want to come backstage they give their name to the guard outside and when you come to the door they let you in, then they go on a loudspeaker and sya that they have a guest. its fun! Yep!! It was SO awkward, and the cast member who was bringing us looked like he was going to throw up of holding in his laughter. The girl went on to say things like "Well I love you! Not quite as good as Idina..but like totally getting there." I mean can you imagine? If I were "Shoshy" I would have told her to leave my stage. Yes I would.

Hello. I will never forget the day that I had a chance to meet Miss Patti in her dressing room after her March 14, 2006 Sweeney Todd perf. I first went outside to the stage door and gave my name to the stage door person. My name was on the "list" and she let me in. Once inside, I was told to wait in a particular area, as Miss Patti's visitors were going up to her dressing room one or two at a time. When my turn came, I went up with this other guy who had apparently worked with Miss P. in "Noises Off." Miss L. called me by my first name. When she saw the other guy next to me, she asked me: "Is he your "friend"?" I remember smiling at that remark and told her that no, he was not my bf. She was ever so nice. I felt like Eve Harrington seeing her heroine Margo Channing, but without the malice. I was on cloud 9 when I left the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. Roman in Austin, Texas
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
Anna - that is too funny. It's always ppl like that who get invited backstage, too, it seems.
That's such a cute picture! I have to admit I'm very jealous that Perez Hilton got in Raul's dressing room at Company the same night I was there. He's the reason I had to wait an hour in the rain at the stagedoor, dammit.
