Vicki did it in Pittsburgh and i heard she was great But I think the timing is better fer Testa They don't need a draw at Papermill just a great Dolly TESTA
Victoria Clark is a great idea. But one of these days, I'd really love to see a Dolly with some sex appeal. Channing's stamp is so enduring, it's hard to escape. But I'd love to see someone like Bernadette do it some day (though we all know she wouldn't be caught dead at Papermil). Dee Hoty? Michelle Pawk? Carolee?

"Me flunk English? That's unpossible!" - Ralph Wiggum
In the original Broadway production, Dolly's songs were re-keyed to suit each of the women playing the role. Jerry Herman worked with each of the new Dollys personally, except for Martha Raye, because of an illness he had.
If they had stuck with Channing's keys for the whole run, they would have had to get men to play the role. (Though there is a rumor that David Merrick tried to get Jack Benny to do it in drag, opposite George Burns as Vandergelder. Talk about stunt casting!)
JoAnn Worley (Laugh-In) did a fine job when she toured with the show. She is still working and would be fine. I remember seeing Eve Arden(no longer with us) do it in Chicago and she really was outstanding
" I hear they are trying to get Judy Kaye as Dolly and Jen cody as Minnie Fay! "
I would die to get to see Jenny C. as Minnie Fay. And I ADORE Judy Kaye. She would be a stunning Dolly!
What about Hunter as Cornelius? And Sutton as Mrs. Molloy? And Christian Borle as Barnaby!!!
I call a revival, folks!

They better get a "name" -- Papermill is in very precarious financial condition and desperately needs a hit or three (and is not gonna get it from Carnival).

I knew doing Harold and Maude, Baker's Wife, and She Loves Me in one season wouldn't do well for their numbers, even if they were bolder choices than in the past.
Rosie! She's Irish so she could be Dolly Gallagher Levi and she could pull in the Paper Mill crowd.

Bernadette Peters seems like a natural choice for this role, she is one of the few stage actresses that can master both the dramatic and comedic aspects of the same role seamlessly. Dolly was written as a nostalgic musical comedy, but I like to see the character played with glimpses of vulnerability and longing which is not often done because most actresses just like to exploit the comedy of the role. Is Donna Murphy too young for the role? I think Murphy, Victoria Clark, and Debbie Gravitte are perfect choices for the role as well.
I don't think Murphy is too young, though I can't quite see her as Dolly. She may put a tad too much subtext behind Dolly. She'd probably be a better fit for a production of The Matchmaker.
Peters would be a great Dolly, but for Broadway and not Papermill. She's too big of a star to be schlepping out to Milburn every day. And besides the theatre could never begin to afford her.
I think Clark is committed to LITP through July.
Judy Kaye would be a hoot.
Murphy strikes me as a bit young for it, but would be interesting. Does Linda Muggleston drive?
