Seriously. Very icy, dark, flashy, geometrical sets that allow you to use your imagination, brilliant costumes, gorgeous music, interested plot, decent book. Come on...what more could one ask for? The cast is dedicated and talented too. I'll admit, it's no Piazza but it's also no corny, nauseating 50s show like All Shook Up or Hairspray. Little support, Ozians?
I don't think "everyone" hates wicked. If anything, it just seems a lot posters on this board have had their fill of idina/wicked comments. mostly cause some of those in favor of wicked have posted ridiculous comments (having not seen many other shows to compare) saying it's the "best show ever" and such.
I was turned off by the Tonys. I guess I haven't heard enough of it to really judge it, but the Tony performance made me not even want to look into it more.
I think it's been said before... They (Or, we...) don't really mind the show, it's the copius amount of useless threads about the show that drive them (Or, us...) nuts.
As for Wicked.... I'm sorry, I know it's mean to say, but it's just too easy to be mean to some people. SOME. And I'm not saying it's right, it's just amusing sometimes. This is the evil emerging from within! BWAHA
"It's a great feeling of power to be naked in front of people. We're happy to watch actual incredible graphic violence and gore, but as soon as somebody's naked it seems like the public goes a bit bananas about the whole thing."
It's not that people hate Wicked, they hate the obnoxious, obsessive, "oMg LyK iDiNa iZ dA bEsT!!!!!111" type fangirls that have become associated with Wicked and give all of the sane fans a bad rep.
"Learn how to laugh.
Learn how to love.
Learn how to live.
That's my style."

Seriously, I think the reason that so many people dislike Wicked is because it's pretty much overrated. Does that mean it's not a decent show? No. But with the scads of teenagers who go to the message boards and squeal about how this show is the best that ever was, it gets to be a bit much. It's not the best show ever, and the current actors are not the best out there. It gets irritating, and many people just get sick of all the comments.
.....is it wrong to make fun of those who call me old because I prefer Julie Andrews over Idina Menzel?
...I don't find.
And THAT is my only problem with Wicked. Otherwise, I love it

WORD!!! What is up with all the threads like...
"What do you think S. Bean's breath smells like?" "OMG, they had a put in rehearsal today" "I ran into the 3rd Galinda u/s at the stage door and she looked my way and I thought I was gonna pass out 'cuz I was SO excited!"
Stuff like that gets annoying REAL quick!

I don't hate it, but I don't like it pretty much at all.
It just struck me as...inane. There's nothing wrong with being inane, I guess, a lot of stuff on Broadway is, but the thing is, stuff like Hairspray and All Shook Up really don't take themselves all that seriously. Wicked tried to be this significant musical, and I didn't find it succeeded at that at all. I knew I didn't like it when everyone around me was crying during "For Good," and I, who cry over EVERYTHING, was sitting there stony-faced.
That said, the set, costumes, and casts ARE great. I think the talent is what stops this from being completely bad.
Edit: The fans are annoying because they seem to think Wicked is the only musical that exists. For example, last year, my friend around the time of the Tonys wished Kristin and Idina would tie, because "neither of them have a Tony." She also didn't know why everyone was making such a big fuss about George Hearn as the Wizard.

Exactly, what beergoggles said. I think it brings out great singers, plus anything that shows Kristin Chenoweth is good enough for me. And I've always found the music to be very pretty. But I have to disagree with a few who think it'll be as famous as say, West Side Story. Yeah, not so much.

I feel like if the cast of the show read some of the wicked posts on this site they would be very suprised to see what kind of strange behavior it brings out lol. i just love it, not obsessed, just think its a great show
Wicked generates more threads than any other show on this board. Even I, a fan (not crazed-fan mind you), am becoming annoyed with the sheer amount of them. I can see how non-fans are severely irritated by the crazed fans proclaiming it the "best thing ever" and talking about every pointless detail. That is probably what is stimulating their hatred more than the show itself.
