Would Magna Szubanski as Elphaba work?

Oh you are evil rosscoe. Evil.
Now I am thinking of Sharon in green paint.
Well in that case
Kim as Glinda
Kath as Morrible
Ken as The Wizard
Now thats casting

Oddly I think it works better the other way around with Kim as Morrible & Kath as G(a)linda.
Plus Kel is Doctor Dillamond all the way.

Pippa can sing... really really can sing.
Yes! And Sylvie Palladino is a classical Soprano! Altho she has done Musicals she does not have the belt required for the role or the right vocal sound and she is too old!
And let's not even mention Magda! It worked for SPELLING BEE due to they type of show but casting her as Big Jules - that is a joke! it's a MAN's ROLE! Don't screw around with a fantastic show! If she is going to keep doing Male roles she should just become a man!
Silvie can belt it out of the park...as for being too old, I think she's actually the same age as Idina Menzel, or maybe a year older. She's in the same age bracket as Julia Murney and Ana Gasteyer so she's not too "old" for the role, but perhaps too mature. I found Julia perfect in the role, but Ana wasn't quite right in act 1. I think Silvie could do Elphaba, but only if she wasn't cast with a younger Glinda :P
I haven't been able to consider anyone else for Glinda since I first saw the show in 2005 and thought, whoa, that's Lucy! I'm dead chuffed that suddenly everyone else in the country is agreeing and I do hope she does in fact have the role.

That sounds very, very ominous. I gotta say I feel like crying. I have been looking forward to Wicked for so long and now that they have possibly cast Rob Mills it is basically ruined for me. How can I get excited about seeing the show when I know he's in it? Why on earth would they do this? I am so angry at the Australian producers. It was bad enough watching him during Idol. When he released his album which flopped I was happy that we might not see him again. He just seems so arrogant, I hate his facial expressions, I don't think he can sing well, and have you seen him on the Mint? He can't host!

When do tickets go on sale? Feb. 8 is it? Well, you can count me in on buying tickets first moment I can, but if I find out on Feb. 12 that he's in the show, those tickets are being sold to someone else. Period.
As long as I have waited for oh so long an Australian production, I'd rather go back and see the London production before I support a production team who put him above countless others who could have been miles better. In my world, it's not on.
Also interesting to note that Ticketek have listed tickets on sale first from a 1pm July 9 performance. I know that is no confirmation of indicated performance dates, but pending the fact that the opening date is July 12, are they meaning to say that currently there are only 3 days of previews? That is well and truly a joke if it is true. Maybe I'm just being very cynical about all this. In all probability, showbiz.com.au will pop up with tickets to earlier preview performances... we'll see in time.

I think everyone here is being a little harsh on Rob Mills. Personally I look forward to seeing him when/if he is in this show. Obviously the American creatives who he auditioned for, believe that he is a suitable match for the role otherwise he wouldn't be there.

did some snooping .. rob auditioned for a musical on 17th Jan .. would that be wicked?
Casting Millsy would be a disaster, as would casting Delta as Elphaba. I think Callea would be great in any part as far as singing goes because he has a great voice but don't know about the acting part!
Pippa is a beautiful singer and would be great in either lead role. Sylvie would be great too..and bring on Anthony Warlow...!

rosscoe - done
alterego - just because they might have picked him doesn't necesarily mean that they've made the right choice. My main issue is that Fiyero is inherently a mediocre written role. It takes a great actor to make him something better than what is written on the page. Mills in not an actor; he's a 'performer', not an accomplished one at that. We're said to be producing world class theatre here in Australia... if true, then this is a step back from that title.
They can throw around any excuse that it'll pack seats, and very well - it's a business. But I'd rather know that I had attended a production of the highest standards in everyway that lasted what, 6 months or so, than say a show that lasts 2-3 years and wasn't the best it could be because of a couple of poor choices that they thought would be overlooked. 'Wicked' the show should be bringing people, not Rob Mills.

from the sound of it i dont think rob would be bringing it the people. I have nothing against him but find it hard to believe he was the best choice. as said before he isn't an actor, he isn't trained in musical theatre.. yes he's done a couple of small roles but is he seriously the best choice??

I seriously do not get the Rob Mills hate. I mean it isn't like the part in question is that huge or central to the plot. It isn't like he is going to painted friggin' green or playing G(a)linda in drag. I can live with him as Fiyero.

It isn't central to the plot? Go see the show again.
It's a big enough part to still be one of the biggest jokes in Australian theatre as of late if he's cast. Now, if it was an arena version of the show in the same vein as Grease as it has been lately... I don't think I'd give a ****. But a fully fledged production that is supposed to be a representation of our industry and its professioanl talent; that's a different story all together...

Maybe I used the wrong words, but Fiyero is well... Fiyero. It isn't like the character is that OMG! to begin with. It isn't a character that requires hugh acting & singing chops to begin with (Elphaba/Galinda) nor is it the roles that work best with a well train actor who can bring in a caustic and/or subtle performance (The Wizard/Morrible). Fiyero is really a means to an end for the Elphaba & Galinda's characters journeys.

True that; you're right on all accounts there. However, that's why it's important to have someone who can make the role something more than it is, so then we forget about the mediocrity. There's a lot at stake within the industry concerning this particular production, the reason it needs to be the best it can be. I'm sure you know that already.

Fair enough, good point as well.
I think my thing is I just don't have any problems with Rob Mills to begin with. *shrug* Though I am willing to admit, singing on Idol and singing on the stage in a big show is two different worlds.
Urban - you are completely correct Sharon Millerchip would be wasted as Nessa but I just wanted to put her in there and it's the only role I could put her into.
Sylvie has a strong belt but Pippa and Amanda Harrison (alternate Elph) will be the ones I think.
I wish they would bring Julia Murney out here - she was so good in this role.
Pippa Grandison recorded an album in the mid 90's which if my memory serves me right was fairly folk inspired. I saw her play Cinderella in Into the Woods in the mid 90's and her voice was ok but nothing that makes the hair stand on the back of your neck.
That said, I hear she has improved and was good in WWRY.
Prepare yourselves for RM as Fiyero. I must admit he has improved a bit vocally in my opinion, but I cannot imagine him being able to act - let alone dance.

I heard that STC production of ITW (with Millerchip as Red), and you are right, Pippa's Cinderella wasn't the standout (then again Connelli as the Witch just completely over shadowed everybody - she made me hairs stand up on the back of my neck).
"I would love Tina Arena to do it, but after what happened with the American Director/Producers of Cabaret, i am not sure she would be willing. "
Anyone know any details??
