The topic has been thoroughly discussed in the thread for the show.
Thou i'm completely enamored with everything about this show, i think it best left as is......which is absolutely BRILLIANT
Circle in the Square will be open. It could go there
This show is not in the round, so Circle in the Square wouldn't be a theatre for it. It would go to one of the other Broadway theatres but I am not too sure if this will transfer this season.

It really should, even just for a limited run! I trust the producing team will be able to transform the next broadway theater to fit this quirky, treasure musical in any stage that it will open its door to.
A Bway transfer has not been discussed or planned but I could see another extension as that may happen?

That doesn't necessarily mean they couldn't adapt it for the round if they wanted to (Fun Home and Spelling Bee weren't in the round Off Broadway either).
With that said, I agree it's highly unlikely we get a transfer.

It would lose most (or all) of its investment. The target audience still has 3 months to see it at the Shed. I loved it, but I do not see it attracting a wider audience than serious Sondheim devotees. It is too ‘special’ for a more typical theatregoer; and, even though I really did love it, I definitely thought the first Act came close to being a little too ‘precious’ for most potential audiences.
Circle in the Square has flexible seating....productions do not have to be in the round...Spelling Bee wasn't.
That being said, I don't see a Bway transfer happening. It really IS an off Bway show.
This is produced by part of the team that transferred SIDNEY BRUSTEIN in such a narrow timeframe, on the heels of a sold-out BAM run, and that flopped spectacularly on Broadway with two very big stars. So that experience could be at the forefront of any decision-making: How to keep up the buzz, but have breathing room between the Off-B and Bway runs, to both encourage repeat buyers and (more importantly) get more new buyers.

The only reason I can imagine the producers doing some sort of limited Broadway run is for the Tony Awards nominations and a little more exposure. Otherwise, it could just extend at The Shed. I agree that it’s an off-Broadway show and there’s nothing wrong with that.
The only way I could ever imagine this coming to Broadway now with the current cast is if there is a very, very wealthy group of investors who are prepared to lose it all for the prestige/status of saying they produced the very last Sondheim show on Broadway lol.
I just don't see it happening personally given the current sales, audience response and reviews. They are better off producing a cast recording and closing in late Jan, paying back most (but guessing not all) of the sizeable investment and being happy with what was achieved. An excellent production, decent sales, a NYT critics pic. Quit while you're ahead!!
If they could swap some of the cast with higher-profile leads (e.g. Bernadette & Mandy Patinkin or Nathan Lane) they might have a better chance, but I just don't see Joe Mantello going for this.

Except the producing team already took the cast out of contention for off Broadway awards, so recognition is not what they're after.
I truly believe this was a labor of love.

I hope so. It's magical. Plus, it is a New York Times Critics Pix.
At the end of the day, any show can come to Broadway if they have the money and they get a theatre.......

Once again, the label is "NYT Critic’s Pick"

I didn’t realize that sales were softening I was assuming that it was doing really well. Have sales started to slide? If so, other than your prestige of investing in the last Sondheim musical, I am more convinced that it would be idiotic to move it to Broadway.

I realize everything about this production is a bit unique, but how unusual is it for an off-Broadway show to take itself out of contention for awards? I vaguely recall the Sunday in the Park with George revival removing itself from awards consideration a few years ago.
It does support the idea that the surviving creatives wanted to put on Sondheim’s last show as they envisioned it - since they were the ones who knew what they wanted, as Ives and Mantello said in the Frank Rich piece.
It does not suggest a Broadway transfer is in the offing.

That revival of Sunday was a very strictly limited engagement that was closing a solid month and a half before the Tony Awards. It basically sold out from the moment tickets went on sale. The decision was made to remove it from awards purely because of the financial aspect, as they made far more from selling all those seats instead of comping them for all the various awards nominators and voters.
After seeing this yesterday, I am DESPERATE for this to come to BROADWAY. It absolutely must. It's a creative triumph, a cultural touchstone, and a landmark musical, in my view, that has changed the game. The most original thing i've seen in forever, this brilliance MUST come in to the big leagues, and win all the awards!!!! Let's hope a transfer is imminent.

A Bway transfer is not imminent. It has not been discussed or planned it has been extended and closes Jan 21 at The Shed so you have plenty of time to see it again. We plan on catching it again in January!
I wonder if they may simply wait for & Juliet to close so this can take the Sondheim?
