Does anyone think they'll EVER release it? They've already held it for three years...I mean, c'mon. Maybe they'll release it when Elton dies? Or for his birthday or something?
Before I encounter the barrage of negative comments on Lestat, I will admit, and so will any true Lestat the Musical fan, it was SO MUCH better Pre-Broadway. I really hope they'll revive it on Broadway some day. I mean, if it's in talks we have Carrie return to the GWW, why not Lestat? (But of course, using the San Francisco Pre-Broadway script and score. Although, some tweeking would still need to be done with the script. Linda Woolverton was SUCH a horrible choice for that project...)
EDIT: From "If we have Carrie back on the GWW" to "If we have Carrie in talks to return to the GWW".
I mean, we have Carrie back on the GWW...
We do? When did that happen?

Well, apperantly (if you look in the Carrie Reading thread) producers have said they intend to bring it to Broadway. Which, the chances are likely, seeing as they have done a reading, and it would be pointless to invest in a reading if the project never intends to GO anywhere.
Nothing has been confirmed for Carrie.
Carrie was a misguided show with a salvageable score that included some standout songs. Lestat was full of clunker (though I am fond of Crimson Kiss). Carrie has slowly grown as a cult musical in 20 years. Lestat isn't quite there yet.
Still, I'd love for the cast recording to surface. Though the score is a bore, Carolee Carmello gave a powerhouse performance.
Allison Fischer's Claudia alone is worth selling the recording for: add that to Carolee Carmello, Drew Sarich and Hugh Panaro...come on people. Just release it already!

They are intending to bring it back to Broadway. This is quite different from it already being performed so in reality it isn't back on the Great White Way, not yet anyway.
You are correct but your original post seems to read that it is currently running
I liked Fischer's song but I found her performance grating.
Maybe they can license it out to a smaller label that specializes on recordings with a limited appeal. There are several in existence that license material to special markets out of the mainstream. I don't see a major recording company releasing this. I doubt the demand is very high for it and they would wind up losing money in the long run.
I'm shocked it isn't floating around out there.
"and it would be pointless to invest in a reading if the project never intends to GO anywhere."
Do you know how many readings occur, every single day, that never GO anywhere? Some readings with the intention that they're not going anywhere - but rather, just to experiment various drafts/versions.
well everyone in the universe already has the 8 track promo and the elton- sung demo and all the other bazillion good quality recordings out there, so I don't even see the point, really.
actually just thinking about it now, didn't Elton say that he would NEVER allow it to be released? So I guess that's that.
I'm also shocked that the recording that was made never surfaced. It's happened a few times in the past when a recording was made and not released, but wound up circulating among traders.

I thought Elton said it was just "on hold". >,>
Allison's performance singing-wise was beautiful, but her acting did need some serious work. Not as bad as Hugh Panaro...he had the same problem. Drew Sarich was a MUCH better Lestat, no question.
I actually like to call Hair revival the "Lestat Reunion"...there's at least four previous cast members from Lestat involved ^^
It is strange that he is apparently not proud of his own work.
Maybe he is a little taken with himself & cannot admit his show failed even though it was not his fault.
It is his decision & so be it.
It was a huge embarrassment for him. He was very hands off with it until it was sinking and the press pegged him as the culprit. I wouldn't say he was completely guiltless on this one. While there are a few standout songs, the score is pretty unremarkable.
Drew was and always will be THE Lestat to me, no question.
Listening to the Elton John demo now and he actually sings "You and me have memories...". Luckily they changed it to I by the time it got on stage cause that would have been even more embarrassing than any flop.
^Hahahah, I noticed that too back when I got the demo and listened to it.
I always loved "Right Before Your Eyes." And "In Paris," in the San Francisco incarnation.
Unfortunately no. I loved the show in spite of its flaws and I'm sorry if other flops can get cast recordings I don't know why this can't. From what I know from the cast members they gave there all and they felt it was the best they've ever done it. Apparently it was never mixed so it's just sitting on a shelf somewhere gathering dust.
I do put a lot of the blame on Elton because he kept bragging about how he finished the score in two weeks and then he just gave it to the creative team and wiped his hands of the whole thing. He never would show up for rehearsals or offer any rewrites or anything. At least Bernie Taupin was involved throughout the process.
I LOVED In Paris and the SF ending, where they all stood together in a line and did their cute, cheesy little lines one by one.
'the pulse of love within my life, was never quite enoughhhh' la la la la la.
Geez, this thread is bringing back so many good memories.

Yes! I would love for it to be released! I saw in back in SF and I thought that the score was actually quite good. I think the book was rather flawed and going in not knowing the story proved to be very confusing. But there were some nice melodies Elton had written. Elton's demos just don't cut it for me.

i hope it does come out . like we aslo need cry baby to come out on cd too.
Lestat was already recorded. Why would they get the cast of Cry-Baby together to record that atrocious score?
