lmao see this person is one of those ppl that are the reason people hate rent on this board. i'm a renthead but when you get obnoxious about it thats just annoying. i have wrote on the wall before but not the outside wall i wrote on the alley. not because oh yea they can paint over it, thats a horrible excuse. painting over it costs money.
anyway i think the new marquee looks really great. sad to see a rent-less neder but guys and dolls should be great! i doubt they're going to keep the wall like that tho. if they repaint it i hope they charge celra for the paint.

I also signed the alley wall, and went back there a few times.
There are some pretty epic sigs. back there. I saw tom cruise's & nicole kidman's, joan rivers', and one I think may have been alanis morisette, it was pretty messy.
That alley is quite a sight, I'd say it qualifies as part of the building's history. The green on the doors; understandable if they paint over it, but I'd like to see at least the alley stay.

Why do people keep saying they like the new marquee?
Its ugly and dull, instantly forgettable and looks cheap

I'm sure... the marquee itself hasn't been built yet. It's just the frame of it.
The look is not dissimilar to this 1958 view of the theatre, when it was the National - theatre name in illuminated bulbs and the logo board at sort of a 45 degree angle. I'd love if they'd add the sign back at the top of the theatre too. Walking east up 41st Street, you can't see the theatre, as its signage is completely blocked, so it would be helpful to have that sign facing west, as in the picture.

Hey I did other things! I drew pictures of the characters!
They looked pretty damn good if you ask me.
I believe they got painted over.

Posted: 2/6/09 at 10:53amI wish that I would have taken pictures of the inside last night. It looked amazing! In comparison to RENT, the Nederlander is the new Carnegie Hall.

I am so curious to see what the proscenium arch area and inside of the auditorium itself look like now that all that gold leafing and painting has happened. Hope some interior photos from the mezzanine can be taken of these views. Anyway, your photos are great!

Loved the restoration when I saw Guys and Dolls recently. I still haven't found a great photo of the new interior, but here at least is a view from the mezzanine from someone on Flickr.
