no fuhhckin wayyy yo! i aint doiin that fo u ppl!
lmao jk ok im sorry to the people who can't read what i write. i did very pour in school. baby steps might work lol. dammit i forgot capital letters. Ok, onto the topic. Here's what im going to say before i sleep; I don't think it's right that the people started writing on the wall, and the Nederlanders had to pay to re-paint it. Thats wrong. I only did it to show my love for Jonathan Larson for creating an amazing show. I apologize for bringing my sharpie with me that day. Forgive me? lol
How'd i do? I need a spell check lol.
You need a lot of things, sweetheart. A spellcheck isn't even in the top ten.

top 20?
30 maybe?
Why does everyone hate me? I feel like cookid lol.
You feel like cool kid because your acting like him. Your not in an IM where you have to rush to say what it is your saying. On here you have all the time in the world to type out what it is you want to say so at least use complete sentences and don't type in IM speak.
By saying that you brought out your sharpie just because someone else did it is like saying it is okay to jump off the Empire State Building just because Johnny did it.

lol thats funny because my name is jonny, but i know i know i shouldn't do something because other people we're doing it. I actually thought that the wall was like a part of rent. I personally think that everyone should have just signed in the alley and not on the front, but doing it on the front shows that the show has a large fanbase, plus it gave the theater a unique look. Some people might not have liked the look others might have i thought it looked good for the show. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that's what people need to learn on message boards. I respect your opinions that noone should have written on the ouside, but i have my opinion too.
But, the fact is is that the alley in the back is different then the front. Lots of shows have places for famous people to sign when they visit the show. Rent had the alleyway wall. Writing on the wall of the theatre doesn't give it a distinct look it is just defacing public property.
Bump for updates on the theater, not more inanity.
The cast iron decorative piece on the front of the theatre has been stripped and is being painted. Right now, it's dark green. I don't know if that's its final color, but it's starting to look nice against the red brick - better than when it was a funereal combination of black and rust. The two westernmost inlaid arches on the top half of the facade (which used to have those whispy black and white photos during the run of Rent) are now outlined with bulbs.
Ooo! It sounds lovely already! I'm beyond thrilled to see the finished product!
If anyone passes by the theater soon, I'd certainly appreciate some pictures of the progress.
I'm dying to see what the theater will look like when the renovations are complete. I bet the interior will be unrecognizable!

I really hope they put some time and money into a nice marquee like the Walter Kerr or something like that. The same with the Henry Miller. I hope they don't just slap up those old, eye sores like the Jacobs or the Golden, or any of the 44-45 street theaters. All of those marquees are so ugly.
I still find that street scary to go into, it feels like Rapes-R-Us.
Part of the marquee is now up. There are two new signs with the theatre's name and the section for the plastics for the show logo. The signs are hanging on the lower level of the metal fixture, one facing east, the other facing west. On top of both signs is the trademark 'N' for the Nederlander chain, and then NEDERLANDER spelled out in bulbs. It has a pretty cool retro look.

i have pictures of the new marquees somewhere if i can find them. i saw the inside last week..... wow. it looks amazing, it was before the seats were in, so it was sort of hard to visualize, but no more run down dingy theater (that i miss completely).
VIola, are you the person who posted this on 13fans.com a few days ago? Because the EXACT same picture is in a thread there mourning the loss of RENT.

I noticed that!! I posted on that thread. I wrote on it "So it closed... BOO HOO. shows come and go!!! THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN RENT!!!!" because everyone was saying "NOOOO RENT CLOSED, I AM CRYING" Yes it is the same picture.
It looks really nice, it looks bigger.
That's what she said!
Seriously though, I walked by a couple weeks ago and took a bunch of pictures of the inside. I'll get them uploaded soon. It looks like it's going to be stunning when it's finished. Lots of gold. The construction worker I spoke to outside said that its going to be beautiful enough to be the Nederlander's flagship theater.
