Can anyone share any Tony ceremony memories where revivals dominated most of the award categories - i.e. these days, it's very much the new shows that win the most awards, e.g. Once, The Book of Mormon, The Producers, etc.

Why don't YOU find the answer and then come back and tell us?

Wow, that was rude...
In 2008, musical revivals won every category it was eligible for except choreography.

I don't think it was rude at all. He said "Okay... sorry." How is that rude?
Don't mind Phyllis..she's still upset that Jan's bag is still empty.

Yeah, I think you've got me confused with someone else.
In 2008, musical revivals won every category it was eligible for except choreography.
And orchestrations.
I think they were calling you rude Phyllis.

1998 - "Cabaret" won Best Revival, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

bjh, you're right, but the dominant revivals that year (South Pacific and Gypsy) were not eligible for Orchestrations. Sunday (?!) was the only revival nominated, and thank goodness that didn't win.
No, I know. I just wanted it to be technically correct. A revival COULD have won Orchestrations, but it didn't.
When KISS ME, KATE won in five or six categories back in 2000 was a big year for revivals. That was also the year CONTACT won Best Musical, sooo...

... real musicals were shut out of winning awards in the categories of Best Musical, Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical, Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. Condolences to all nominees who were shafted at the Tony Awards that year, all in the name of recognising a show that, while excellent and deserving of recognition in some way, was not a musical and should not have been eligible for awards in those categories.

I wouldn't say Show Boat dominated 1995. That was a really weak year in general, but the acting awards were split (2 for Sunset, 1 for How to Succeed, and 1 for Show Boat), as were the design awards (2 for Sunset, and 1 for Show Boat).
I think Phyllis's sentiment is that the OP posted a question that could EASILY have been answered with his own quick google search and a tad of research. Instead, the poster asks everyone else to do the work for him.
