		     			1) The rent tour is non-equity?? Well I learned something new today.
2) One of the semi finalists last year was in A Lion King prior to getting in, and so was Justin Guarini for that matter, so I think people in equity can do AI.

That audition on IDOL was bad. Totally not justice for Constantine. Ive seen his band and they are pretty fricking good. Also, constantine was Hedwig in Portsmouth and was absolutely fabulous. He can sing like you would not believe... that auditions was just bad. (his acting needs work)

When I saw it I almost gagged. Hadn't talked to constantine in months- but def. reminded me of times past.... Constantine and I sang with a lot of the same musicians in a band.

Do you think the drummer hissy fit was staged? I mean, he looked like he was grinning when he walked out!
My problem with him was pretty simple: He didn't sing. No kidding, he spoke his lines in "Another Day."

I thought he was edgy and atypical in his audition.

Don't remember feeling so alone, but I'm rooting for him.

In the words of Da Heartbreak Kid, "leave connie in his grave!!!!" That boy has had his 15 minutes of fame. I say stay with the band, but is AI really the big break he should be shooting for?

BTW, that whole band thing had to be staged. The band is in NYC, and the auditions were in DC. Staging band break ups is lame.

I was in a concert version of Les Mis with Constantine in September 2000. He played Marius and his version of "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" was excellent. Betty Buckley was also involved in the concert. He was very "Broadway" back then... his whole heavy metal rock thing is interesting compared to what I remember him as!

The whole segment was staged, like much on AI is. If he doesn't sound better in Hollywood, I doubt he'll stick around for very long.

I'm one of what appears to be few that really liked Constantine as Roger. It was pretty cool to see him on AI, even though I'm surprised they let him pass on, they didn't seem to want to that much. I've also seen his band gig out (they have regular gigs in NYC) and they're pretty fun. Hard rock. Constantine is such a charmer, and that's probably part of what helped him move on. He didn't even flinch, very confident and collected.

It was definitly staged... and his drummer, would normally be so much more pissy. That whole drum smashing thing at the end- that's his gig... At the end of every set Pray for the Soul of Betty plays he crashes the drums everywhere. Without a doubt, they'd be stupid to get really angry.... this is totally good press for his band. Oh- and I don't think that even in the "staging" they broke up- seems like they just made it seem that way... more like they were anti AI and just said oh well.. see ya when u get back. For god sakes, his band followed him on the RENT tour... of course they'll stick it through.
Eh, I liked him. At the very least, he's a breath of fresh air from the Mariah-ish, slow-jam, sloppy consonant, inappropriate hand gesturing tripe that normally gets passed off as "excellent" on that show.

Exactly. The band actually set up gigs in the cities the Rent tour hit and followed him around while he was doing Rent. They're cool guys, and I bet they'll find a way to milk this for all it's worth. Maybe even find a way around Constantine selling his soul.

The rent tour is NON -Equity...
what a horrible way to depict the singers in DC...yes we have some TERRIBLE ones, but they hardly showed any good ones!...and i, too, and not a fan of constantine...i thought he was actually going into epilectic shock while singing that horrible rendition of a good song

like i said- that song did not show him off well.. he was clearly nervous and over acting. if he just sat back and chilled he would have been better off.... oh the good ole days of him as hedwig :)

Hey, I knew that was him!!! I thought he looked familiar.

I saw him when the tour came to Columbus last year. He gave Roger no depth and the only emotion he showed was anger, which made Roger unlikable to me. I was disappointed in his casting, but it wasn't bad enough to spoil the show.

He was AWFUL.. It was the first time I saw Rent that I hated the ENTIRE cast. Then again I don't count much for the tours that aren't affilatiated with Equity. And people should realize this is a downgrade...Idol is below being part of a tour.. This is just sad...
^^ Idol is, unfortunately, a colossal joke on the viewing public...but at times I just can't tear myself away -- especially during the "audition process" (and I use that term VERY loosely).
I have not seen him as roger but i think it is cool that he got called back. FIrst because he is different and second because he was in rent which i have to say is sad on my part. Like others i am sad that there are only Mariah wannabes.

His band was playing the night I saw RENT in Cleveland. At the stage door he invited us to see it, but I was too young.

my only thing with constantine is.. dont get me wrong, his voice is good, he can belt pretty damn high... but the whole cast of rent could sing better than him, and he is going to hollywood. american idol sucks!! why didnt that dude who played collins and the jamie girl who played mimi audition?!?! american idol is nuts.. i know this girl who is a tremendous singer, like incredible.. and she's very pretty, she was a backup singer for britney spears lol.. the producers said she sounded too much like britney! but she could blow anyone out of the water there!! including kelly clarkson.. she was called back for mimi and maureen in rent on broadway actually, but turned it down! it just shows that idol does not have the best people, thats for sure. good luck to constantine though, he was real nice and hopefully he'll do good.
Are you referring to the infamous "Scooter Girl"? She was AMAZING in her audition with American Idol. I also saw RENT last year with Constantine, and was extremely excited to see him sing on national television. It's a small world! Anywho, I did't care for his Roger, the whole running his hand through his hair every 5 seconds rubbed me the wrong way, but i thought Marcus Paul James was excellent, and the seasons of love soloist. I'm going to see the tour in 2 weeks in Kalamazoo, and I've only heard great things about all of them. Constantine has talent, and a great voice, but I doubt he'll make it far, hence he barely made it past the first round. But prove me wrong Contstantine!!

Think about it. He had a backstory AND they took the time to actually shoot pre-audition footage. He's not going anywhere anytime soon.
oh wow... i actually met constantine in DC years ago and he was really nice, but as roger in "rent" that was painful! i was baffeled as to how he got cast in the first place. very low energy and minimal acting ability. i have to say that whole cast of "rent" was not good when it came to LA last year. although it seems from reading the postings on this board that the current touring cast is good... happy to hear that!
Slight threadjack--someone on CB said he thought he saw Marcus Paul James (current tour "Collins") in the background when people were told who was going through. Did anyone else see him??
