#0open elphaba call on radio????
Posted: 12/5/04 at 1:07pmMy nephew told me about this...did anyone hear that radio ad yesterday afternoon for an open Wicked/Elphaba replacement call? There was a Geico ad on right after it, I thought it was a joke, but did anyone else hear it?

Posted: 12/5/04 at 1:32pmI'm sure there are age requirements; it's not like they would allow a 14 year old girl to be the next big star of Wicked! Maybe even an 18 or 19 year old at that.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 1:34pmThese kind of open calls are required every six months.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 1:34pmWell, I imagine that not "anyone" could play her. They're probably looking for a female. Over the age of 14. Below the age of 65. That type of thing.

"These kind of open calls are required every six months."
I'm confused - why is this? Besides, I wouldn't think that they would make the next biggest star on Broadway as of right now a random person *despite possible talent* - because a name will keep it popular, correct?

Posted: 12/5/04 at 1:38pmNot to mention most of the leads are over 30.
#11re: open elphaba call on radio????
Posted: 12/5/04 at 1:40pmOkay, thanks for clearing that up - but honestly, what are the odds that a talented, random girl will be picked over an already known and loved name?
#12re: open elphaba call on radio????
Posted: 12/5/04 at 1:42pmthere is nothing on backstage or actors equity about the call. The theatre web site doesn't mention it either. Does anyone know when and where it is???

Posted: 12/5/04 at 2:00pmIf a random girl blows them away, she will be cast in the role.
#14re: open elphaba call on radio????
Posted: 12/5/04 at 2:02pmI agree that it is possible.. I just can't see it happening. Wicked is a big old business besides a Broadway show.

#16re: open elphaba call on radio????
Posted: 12/5/04 at 2:09pmI just realized that how I am posting on this particular thread doesn't seem to be very supportive of anyone here who is auditioning, and I apologize - I know there are a ton of talented people here who could easily have a shot at being the next Elphaba! Good luck to everyone (I'm jealous you have enough guts and talent to get out there and try out)!

Posted: 12/5/04 at 5:40pmI sort of agree that a no-name actress doesn't really have much of a chance (This could be like those Rent calls that were determined to basically be publicity stunts.) Gut instinct tells me they've got a stellar, and fairly big named Elphana waiting in the wings pre-Menzel. However, best of luck to everyone auditioning! Wish I could be there!

They have been having auditions.
One of my best friends here at the Univeristy was called in to audition last month for Elphaba. They told her she was still a little young (She is eighteen) but that they'd keep her in consideration for a few years down the line or perhaps the tours.
Fun huh!

#22re: open elphaba call on radio????
Posted: 12/5/04 at 6:02pmI honestly don't thin there needs to be a big name in order keep Wicked goign at the rate that it is. I would perfer a new a talent unknown to fill the role.
