I think the song is perfect for the opening of the show. If you've seen the movie it fits completely. I don't think its the BEST song but it isn't horrible.

Also it kind of sets up the whole judging theme of the show. You judge her character by this song and what kind of world she lives in just like the students at Harvard do.

I think I'm going to enjoy it.

The lyrics are bad, but honestly I think that they're supposed to be pretty bad. These are sorority girls at UCLA, not music students at a performing arts school.

My one qualm is that the song is really annoying. Wow. But if you think about the beginning of the movie, it fits very well. I just hope that they change the part when Elle finds her dress, because that's really... not a good effect.

Legally Blonde is one of my favorite movies, and I'm hoping that the musical will be at least decent. I'm expecting that it will be fun and I'll probably like it just because I love the movie, much like I did with TWS.

I am also hoping that they'll expand more on Elle and Emmett's relationship development, because the movie really glossed over a lot (hooking up couples offscreen is evil. EVIL, I say!)

Several times it's been said that that was Kerry Butler in the demo. It's not. Kerry Butler was in the reading. The demo/promotional sampler did feature LBB.

I think it's cute. It doesn't sound like, you know, Sondheim or anything, but it sounds exactly how it's supposed to- a bubblegum pop musical. That's it. It's probably not going to win a million Tonys. But don't quote me on that. It may even turn out to be like Wicked, a cult hit that has campy lyrics and a not too good score but will run FOREVER.
Wow, I haven't been able to get this song out of my head in three days.

I'm sure it'll be cute in context of the show, but at exam time it's the last thing I need to have on repeat in my mind.

I think the song works well in the context of the show. I actually interperated it to be slightly self-mocking/stupid-on-purpose... considering O'Keefe's past work and usual sense of humor. Also, O'Keefe performed a bit of this song at After Party a while ago, and that seemed like the tone he was giving it.

I've heard good buzz about this show. Someone involved in the production said to a friend of mine "I know so many of you think it's going to be really stupid... but it's actually really, really good" or something to that effect... not that I completely trust the objectivity of someone involved. Still, I'm definitely starting to look foreward to this one.

That has to be one of the most painful experiences ever... and that's the opening number?
OH MY GAWD YOU GUYS...STOP PICKING ON THE SONG!!!!!!

I have to say I was dissapointed in the song too. It's trying to be Hairspray but sounds more like bad Wedding Singer. Of course you can't judge a show by one song, but it is the opening number and it should get you excited about it. Oh well, I will see it in SF and share my thoughts then.

Edit: OK, the Hairspray/Wedding Singer reference has kinda been talked about. Too funny...

I LOVE IT! Seems to me that it fits the opening perfectly. And catchy it is, I can't stop singing it. I have heard the whole demo and I think the entire score is a ton of fun!

I have to say i thought wedding singer was good and was very self aware but this song just comes off as cheap.
I hope to god this doesnt reflect the rest of the show, wedding singer and hairspray had great opening songs what grabbed you from the start but this one will leave people running to blockbuster to rent the film.

Good luck to them all though im sure they will work hard on its try out and solve the problems,Though i think this will prob have the same run as the wedding singer,

Well I will say one thing about this song: I listened to 2 days ago and STILL cannot get the tune out of my head. The tune is very catchy. That being said it sounds very Hairspray-ish (which is not necessarily a bad thing) and IMHO, the lyrics need serious reworking because they sound very cheesey and bad. I don't know if they're meant to sound that way or what, but I hope that the creative team will take a good, long look at the lyrics for this song.

Not sure if it's been mentioned on the board already or not, but there's another song up at the link in the first post.

Thoughts on the new number they added:

When I said that I wanted more Emmett/Elle development in the musical, this is NOT what I meant!

I think the rest of the score will be better than the three sampler songs. And remember, it's still in TRYOUTS. They can-and most likely will-change some things about the score. For all we know, the staging, sets, etc. might be wonderful! Don't slam this just yet.

Is it sad I want to see this when I make the pilgrimmage up to NYC in May? Wicked for a second time sounds good, too. To bad my mother thinks 14-year-olds are too young to see Spring Awakening. [WHY DO I HAVE TO BE SO SHELTERED???]

Omigod, omigod you guys...listening to those songs made me want to die!

I am only judging the two songs, and not the show as a whole.

As a fan of the movie (the first one), I think they sort of missed what made the first one work and what made the second one disastrous. No matter how campy and fun the characters were, they still felt real in the first one. Judging from those two songs (where they talk to a dog, or when Luke Wilson character doesn't know what a department store is), it just sounds like one big caricature. There's a difference between fun/fluff and just plain awful shallowness.

Couldn't have said it better, myself. And it seems in the song like she's trying to change Emmett, which bothers me.

I realize that I don't really like the idea of a musical for this movie because I don't think that there needs to be anymore expounding on people's feelings or situations.

Did you not get the memo about the classic spoof of Lassie and that the Luke Wilson character isn't the same as in the film?
