If In the Heights is becoming a film why not Spring Awakening too? I think it would be great to see more musicals turn into films. As long as they aren't all done by Rob Marshall. Maybe this was already discussed on other boards, sorry if that is the case.

A film of the original play? YES!

A film of the musical...no!

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

It's already going to be made into a film. McG is set to direct it.

This is the one musical, though, that most likely won't work in the conversion from stage to screen. But we'll see how it turns out.

What if Lea Michele were brought back in for the role? Glee is having such a great success right now it might actually sell in the box office even if it doesn't transfer to film well.

I can see this as a film, maybe like Across the Universe. Lots of dream sequences, colors, etc., like the TV commercial they had for the show. Actually that does sound very Rob Marshall, doesn't it? ~Steven

Actually there is already a TV movie of the play, but it is a German/French production and aired for the first time in February.

I also agree that a movie version of the play is fine... but not the musical.

I love the musical, but I don't see it transferring to film very well unless the stage version were to be filmed. So many of the songs are inner monologues cut away from the actual action, which works great on stage, but would be a tough thing to tackle on the big screen.

No. Play or Musical, they both belong (and would only work) on the stage.

She doesn't really look like a high school student, either, but millions of people watching Glee every week don't seem to care.

McG directed the Charlie's Angels movies... Terminator Salvation... he also is one of the producers of the tv series CHUCK

I certainly don't have a problem with her playing a high school student but, a 14 year old would be pushing it. however, i still think it would be great to see her in a film version of Spring Awakening. John gallager Jr. doesn't look like he did during Spring Awakening either.

blaxx, no one is saying it would be a mega hit or even if she should be in any movie. original question was should there be a Spring Awakening movie. I for one would love to have more musicals become a base for movies.

Which role will Zac Efron play? Also, will Nicole Kidman play one of the adults? Oh and how many new songs will Marc Shaiman write for it? I just hope Pierce Brosnan sounds better in this than he did in MAMMY MIO.
