i think both songs on the movie soundtrack are even better than the original. i think its the addition of tracie thoms. no offense to fredi, but tracie is AMAZING. shes the perfect choice, and she makes these 2 songs even better for me.

The new "Take Me..." is the best I've ever heard Menzel sing, and that's counting Wicked. She's improved a lot since '96. And Tracie has got a dynamite voice.
Anyway, I really love "Love Heals" as well. I think Idina and Tracie sound fantastic on that track. I also LOVE hearing Idina and Taye sing together in 2 of the verses! It's like the Wild Party all over again! <3
I had just finished shooting a coffee commercial.
And ain't it ironic? I don't drink coffee.
Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee.
oh yes i forgot how amazing tracie sounds in love heals. i love that whole song, but tracies high notes just make it even more amazing. she sounds great in every song she sings!
i <3 tracie thoms!

TMOLM = "Take Me or Leave Me". it looks like namo was poking fun at broadway86's apparent comment that Idina's soundtrack version of "Take Me Or Leave Me" is even better then when she sang it in Wicked, even though that is not what was meant, it kinda looks like it. but, I hate it when people abbreviate things like that... although, that's usually for show titles... like "25APCSB"... that's obnoxious just say spelling bee...
Funny this came up... I think idina sucks on the new record. She sounds sloppy and unrehearsed. And Tracy is no comparison to fredi. Has anyone ever heard, on a karaoke CD, the track that includes a guide vocal? This is a studio singer who's paid $50 do do a vocal, so people can "learn" from it? This is exactly what Tracy sounds like. A boring, mediocre version of Fredi. Add to that Idina's Wicked-esque gasping, and the new TMOLM sucks.
On the other hand, the new Glory, Rent, What You Own, and a few others are excellent. I'd love to hear Daphne and Fredi with these new richer orchestrations. While I love Rosario as an actress, she is also a boring singer. That's my two cents.

Hey,I'm sorry, but I don't think Tracie Thoms sounds like she paid $50 to sing the way she does and that's it. I believe she adds cuteness to Joanne, and I love her voice in "Take me or Leave me." My issue with this song is Idina's performance, people say she's learned a lot since Rent and she has, but I think it was the inexperience that made her performance of Maureen so fun and amazing. I honestly like some of the things she did with "Take me or Leave me" in the OBCR, it sounded like she was having a blast, this one sounds too professional, too well-recorded. However, I don't think she "sucks," she is a great performer and her voice is seamless, I just prefer her performance in the OBCR. Tracie is not a new Fredi Walker, she has approached Joanne in a different way and I think it works, no comparisons.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I love Idina in "Love Heals" but to me, she just sounds tired in all of her other tracks. Tracie is amazing and I have nothing else to say about that. (I love the way she sings her first "And if you give a damn...")
"Who says you can't bend over backwards and eat bugs if you want to? I guess the bugs would probably say you can't do that that, but assuming that they are willing and consenting bugs, then there's no problem. Let's wig out eating bugs."

I love that every person on the soundtrack changes something from the original recording... it shows to me that they don't have to sing it the same way. Tracie Thoms blows me out of the water, and I think she is AMAZING. I really love the new TMOLM... In Goodbye Love the lyrics: "Didn't Give An Inch When I Gave A Mile" I love the way Tracie sings that! Unfortunately, I don't really hear any emotion behind Rosario's voice. She has a nice voice, but I can't really connect to her. On the other hand, Love Heals is one of my favorite songs... it's fresh & I love how it incorporates every main character, just imagine hearing it live.
I actually really like the new Goodbye Love. The changes they took with the music, like the reverb guitar after the line "I have to find.." "Goodbye..." Is really, I dont know..Haunting? For lack of a better word. I think the whole cd does justice to the OBCR.
And I kind of have to agree on Idina, tho. I dont think she sounds as great as she has on other recordings. TMOLM sounds great, its nice to hear the different vocalizations she made and Tracie Thoms is good too, but Over the Moon stands to be my least favorite track on the new cd. Not that I mind the new way its sung, but on more then one occasion I found my self cringing on a few notes.
At first I thought Love Heals was a misprint because it sounded like a cast song from American Idol. However it has started to grow on me...like the new OSG has. I adore that song.

I agree with ray-andallthatjazz86. Tracie is not Fredi. She tried her hardest not to copy Fredi and to make Joanne her own, and after having Fredi imprinted in all of our minds these 9 years, she did a damn good job.
YankeesFan, you can hear Anthony really well if you listen to him and Rosario singing the line "When life's unfair, when things like us aren't meant to be." And you can hear Jesse really well later on after the clapping dealie. He's rocking out with Tracie while everyone else sings the phrase "love heals"
I absolutely LOVE the new Goodbye Love. Rosario and Tracie did really good on the whole "I'd be happy to die for a taste..." line, you can hear the harmony really clearly and its gorgeous. I'm also glad Adam's 'yeah' isn't so... weird... this time. The original phrasing of that word always made me go, 'Wtf was he thinking?" Idina's "Who said I was talking to you?" is better, and then I absolutely love the whole Mark/Roger fight at the end- so much more emotion. Especially their parting phrases, I love how they said them, and then Adam's little sigh before "I'll call."- you can hear how much Roger cares about Marky. Aww.
The music revamping also worked really well, too.
Two things I didn't like- I didn't enjoy how you can't hear Mark and Benny trying to stop the fight as well early in the song, and they don't sound as panicked that a fight is starting like the original. I also didn't really like Rosario's "I'm scared, I need to go away"- I see what she's trying to do, and if I was in that place I'd be doing the same thing, but I'd like to hear at least a little of the notes right there.
Take Me Or Leave Me- incredible. A lot of people say the OBC recording was better, but I still see them as even. The new recording actually reminds me of the OBC press video.
Over the Moon- I'm holding out final judgement until I see how Idina acts to go with her new take on the song.
i agree with Fizz's comments about over the moon. this is the studio recording, but they are using the live one in the movie. and plus it sounds different b/c she brought back her long island accent more than she did on the OBCR.
and i really applaud tracie on not copying fredi. and when you add in the fact that she was one of us: a hopeless RENThead, she deserves more credit. if any of us got chosen to play our favorite role, our first impression would be to copy the original. so bravo to tracie on that one! i really hope this movie gets her name out there, b/c a bunch of people are still going "who the hell is she?" and she deserves to be known.
