Bump.
These boards had a time zone glitch earlier today and some threads were displaying towards the bottom of the page.

I’d expect “Paddington” to get probably the most nominations.

Stereophonic (Play) and The Comedy About Spies (Comedy).

Very nice to see a wide spread of productions here.
Worth noting that HERE WE ARE got nominated for Best New Musical, with Jane Krakowski and Tracie Bennett picking up acting nods. Sean Hayes also got two nominations (for performance and also musical contributions). Oh, Mary is also up for Best Comedy/Entertainment, with Giles Terera nominated for Supporting Actor as Abe.
Also, there was a dual nomination for actors playing Paddington, ALL MY SONS got nominated in every eligible acting category, and Jaime Lloyd was shut out from the directing category for EVITA.
SIdebar: Victoria Hamilton-Barritt got nominated for Supporting Actress in a Musical for Paddington and I’m rooting SO hard for her.

It's bizarre (and frankly, wrong) the Oliviers only have one directing category (with 4-5 nominations) that encompass directors from 5 other categories - New Musicals, Musical Revivals, new plays, play revival & comedy/entertainment. (and there are 8 acting categories).
That should change. The directors and designers are completely getting the short end of the stick in these. It’s wrong,

Victoria is one of the most amazing people working in theater ANYWHERE.

Assuming you're talking about Jo Foster, they're a non-binary actor and they are nominated for playing Jack, a male character.

I’m happy Stereophonic wasn’t nominated for Play. What a completely hyped up play by musical theater people who loved the music. I’m sorry, it was never a good play. 3 hours of mostly nothing and boring as hell.

I wasn't, I didn't even know that.
I was referring to Arti Shah, who is inside the Paddington costume. I realize it is an atypical situation, but placing them in the "Actor” category kinda undermines her contribution. Are they equally billed or not?

On Jo Foster, though…
Why do "non binary" actors accept a "binary" category?
Same with Cole Espousa.
Even if given a choice, they still need to "bind" themselves to one label. Which seems totally not in the spirit of how they identify.

I feel the same way about Mrs. Warren missing revival and Imelda missing actress. What a bore that show was. Thrilled for Rosamund and Inter Alia, though!

Me again, sorry.
Perhaps the NB thing is why no nomination for Mason Alexander Park? They share my logic, so declined to submit their name for consideration?

My guess is that Oh, Mary! just doesn't resonate with English audiences the same it does as American audiences. Much of the humor relies on being brought up with the culture of Abraham Lincoln symbolizing all the white, heteronormative American success story. Most of the new English plays nominated by the Oliviers we never see on Broadway for the same reason - they were written for a different audience.
Anyway, although I sympathize with non-binary actors like Jo Foster and Mason Alexander Park having to pick a binary category to contend in, the alternative of having ten people nominated in a genderless category with two winners isn't ideal either. And imagine the uproar had Mason Alexander Park (who is AMAB) beat out a cis woman for a Best Actress nomination. Even if Park did have a shot at a nomination, a lot of committee members probably chose to simply not nominate them at all to avoid controversy.

Someone in the Dracula thread said they kept the opening date as is because it was the cutoff date for the Oliviers. If that's true and Erivo missed, oof

This is the list of eligible productions for this years Oliviers. Dracula is on the list.

Lots of shows omitted that received some aclaim or were star vehicles or had popular culture connections (Hercules, Hunger Games).

Any thoughts on the double-nomination for Danielle Fiamanya and Georgina Onuorah for Brigadoon? I guess it’s not really any different than what they did for Matilda, but it still strikes me as a little odd.
