From the bottom of my comments:
"There's a fine fine line, between love and a waste of your time" from AVENUE Q
and I love the quote from the show even though it is not per say a song lyric:
"I was raised to be charming, not sincere" from INTO THE WOODS
I love the Anything Goes lyric quoted by Albin I also love this Dorothy Fields lyric from Sweet Charity ( Charity's Soliloquy);
While I really didn't begrudge it,
When I figured out my budget...
This makes me smile every time I play it!

Here's a favorite lyric
"...Though skies are grey
I'm as gay as a Disney cow
Not a wrinkle upon my brow
Not a cent in the red
Not a care in the world..."
John LaTouche, lyrics
Vernon Duke, music
BANJO EYES, 1934
reused in CABIN IN THE SKY, revival 1964
"Success is like failure it's how you perceive it;
It's what you do with it, not how you achieve it"
- "It's a Hit!" Merrily We Roll Along
"I will never sleep, now my heart has been awakened
To feel the yearning for a single perfect touch
I can't afford to wait, or the magic will be taken
I don't want to lose it, there can never be too much
There are times I want to run, times I want to hide
Things I've left undone, things I cast aside
So many things to try, so many things denied
And all I know is sooner or later I wanted a chance now
Sooner or later, it's here I can dance now
Weightlessly free I'll be reborn if I only dare
Limitlessly there'll be no more boundaries anywhere"
- "Braver Than We Are", Dance of the Vampires
"When temptation comes to call, then the soul can lose its way
When the angels start to fall, only prayer can save the day"
- "Say a Prayer" Dance of the Vampires

This one always sums up the title role in Phantom of the Opera for me....
"In his eyes...all the sadness of the world, those pleading eyes, that both threaten and adore...."
Bonnie in Oz
"Is that just disgusting!
All greasy and gitty!
It looks like it's moulting
and tastes like...well pity
a woman alone
with limited wind
and the worst pies in London!"
Sweeney Todd
I always smile at "limited wind"
2 verses from hairspray songs always get stuck in my head:
"in my ivory tower life was just a hostess snack, but now i've tasted chocolate and imma neva goin back!"
and
"once i was a selfish fool who never understood, never looked inside myself, though on the outside i looked good!"
and from thoroughly modern millie:
"you, me, weeeeeWAIT a minute! just a minute! no no no no!"
I'm listening to Defying Gravity right now... the lyrics are so easy to relate to, and they really stick. So do a lot of things in Seasons of Love... and a lot of other songs from Rent. And even though it's not really Broadway, the one on my signature from Billy Joel. Well, it is Broadway now because of Movin' Out, but Billy came first, so he definitely gets the credit.
And I am free at last
What a blast!

"Let's open up a restuarant in Santa Fe"
"Not in my back yard untensils, go back to China!"
"Life's too short, babe, time is flying, I'm looking for baggage that goes with mine"
Wicked:
"By my looks he won't be blinded"
"I wasn't born for the rose and pearl"

"And just when you think you're out there on your own
You see yourself in someone else's eyes
If they told you you could never love yourself
It was a lie
Hold up your head
Never be afraid to shine
Viva la difference
In my body and my mind
Hold out with loneliness
It's such a waste of time
Come on in from the outside" - Taboo
Some of many great lyrics in that show. Especially since you don't really expect them for some reason and, boom, there they are.
"I wish I had taken more pictures" - Avenue Q
"So if you can't find me
Look to the Western sky
As someone told me
Everyone deserves a chance to fly
I'm never flying solo
At least I'm flying free
To those who ground me
Take a message back from me
Tell them how I defy gravity
I'm flying high defying gravity" - Wicked

"Don't dream too far. Don't lose sight of who you are...
...Every so often we long to steal to the land of what might have been.
But that doesn't soften. We ache, we feel when reality sets back in....
Don't wish, don't start. Wishing only wounds the heart"
~All from "I'm Not that Girl in Wicked
All of Defying Gravity. Espceially "And if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free"
and..
"
It is I admit the tiniest bit
Unlike I anticipated
But I couldn't be happier
Simply couldn't be happier-well not simply...
Cause getting your dreams
it's strange but it seems
a little, well, complicated
There's a kind of a sort of a cost
There's a couple of things get lost
There are bridges you cross you didn't know that you crossed until you've crossed"
~Thank Goodness, Wicked
and most of "For Good"
"Another Day" from Rent has beautiful lyrics, as well as the "Finale," "On My Own," "Red and Black" and most other songs from Les Miz. BEing Alive from Company has really nice lyrics too.
Into The Woods-
"Careful the wish you make
wishes are children
careful the path they take
wishes come true not free
Careful the tale you tell
that is the spell,
Children will listen."
~Children Will Listen
Wicked-
"And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
by being my friend"
~For Good
Some of the ones that stick out the most to me

Albin's choice of the "Anything Goes" lyric is odd. The very thought of this man at a "nudist party" in a studio sends shudders up and down my spine! If any one was born to be fully dressed it's Albin!
uhhh almost anything from les miz and i luv the avenue Q lyrics b/c theyre soo fresh and creative! jus what broadway needs =D
"He says as we're undressing he admires Richard Nixon.
And I said "Are you a Republican?'
And he just laughed and I said 'bitch.'"- from Infinite Joy
"Don''t brush your hair, you're perfect
Don't start to cry.
There's not a guy, there's not a horse or zebra.
There's not a giant man who could love you the same as I.
Forget that giant man, he won't love you the same as I.
I'm not a giant man but I'll love you until I die." -March of the Falsettos
Ahh, it's been a William Finn day.
"I wash my face, then drink beer, then I weep. Say a prayer and induce insincere self-abuse, till I'm fast asleep"- In Trousers
la la la la la la..........
overture from nine
"I chose and my world was shaken, so what?
The choice may have been mistaken, the choosing was not.
You keep moving on."
- Sondheim, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
These lyrics resonate in so many ways with me. They are words I live by.
For sheer smutty fun, you can't beat "But In The Morning, No" from DUBARRY WAS A LADY. And my other favorite is "Meat and Potatoes" from MR. PRESIDENT which is NOT one of Irving Berlin's finer moments.

Here are some lyrics from the master!
"I remember days -- Or at least, I try.
But as years go by they're a sort of haze.
And the bluest ink isn't really sky.
And at times, I think I would gladly die
For a day Of sky."
"I can dance a tango,I can read Greek --
Easy.
I can slay a dragon any old week --
Easy.
What's hard is simple; What's natural comes hard.
Maybe you could show me how to let go,
Lower my guard, Learn to be free.
Maybe if you whistle --
Whistle for me. "
"Hyphenated Harriet, the nouveau from New Rochelle."
Some others
"Simple are the ways we come apart"
"Feel the flow,
Hear what's happening:
We're what's happening.
Don't you know?
We're the movers and we're the shapers.
We're the names in tomorrow's papers.
Up to us, man, to show 'em …"
And here's a favorite line of mine from a musical
"It is the obligation we have been given.
It is to not turn out the same. It is to grow, to accomplish, to change the world."

the song from Easter Parade called Im Steppin Out With My Baby, "If i seem to scintillate, Its because im on a date." i dont know why but i love the lyrics to it
i've recently fallen in love with some of the lyrics from zanna don't. this one being from "do you know what its like"
Do you know what its like to look into your eyes,
and to see what i know you don't see in mine,
though i pray it might be so the whole night through.
Do you know what its like to have to let go of your hand,
and to start another life, a life i don't understand,
and live the rest of my life knowing how much i hurt you.
OH do you know.
i love that show,
will

OK here are some of mine:
"For out of what we live
and we believe
Our Lives Become
The Stories that we weave" (Lynn Ahrens, from ONCE ON THIS ISLAND)
"I have wings
And I can fly
You Teach Him Earth
And I'll Teach him sky" (Lynn Ahrens, from SEUSSICAL)
It's called
flowers wilt
It's called apples rot
It's called theives get rich and saints get shot
It's called God don't answer prayers a lot
OK, now you know ( Sondheim, from MERRILY...)
I chose and my world was shaken, so what
The choice may have been mistaken
the choosing was not" (sondheim, from SUNDAY IN THE PARK)
The Ahrens & Flaherty website
Mine is from rent.
Will I lose my dignity
Will someone care
Will I wake tomorrow
From this nightmare?
I dunno what it is about this song but it gets to me every time, and I still haven't seen it. GRRRRRRR! It was in Indy too a few weeks ago, but no I was broke and couldn't get a ride down from school. Oh well. I'm not bitter can you tell? But still it just has a really powerful deep meaning for me.
But not with trumpets!
There won't be trumpets...
Who
Needs
Trumpets?!
Just seemed to say we are all ordinary heros. Loved that concept.
