Posted: 8/5/05 at 3:22pmi don't think there is a single best rock opera/show but i think rent, hair, rocky horror, dreamgirls and hedwig are all great.

Posted: 8/5/05 at 10:36pmCan you call HAIR, TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW or DREAMGIRLS rock operas? Rock musicals yes, operas no.Opera's should be sung through, these have books/spoken dialogue. I would have to give my vote to either JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR or TOMMY.

I like Rent and Jesus Christ Superstar, but I think that I identify more with Rent because and I'm not a Christian. I love JCS, but I wasn't as moved by it as others in the audience were. There was some crying by others when Jesus was put on the cross, but I didn't really have the emotional attachment to it. I did love the music of JCS.
I loved Rent because I felt that by the end of the night, I knew the characters and that I could relate to them, and see them in myself and the people that I love. The music was great and well connected.
I thought that Rent had more heart than JCS.
