"O, I?m gonna be wounded
O, I?m gonna be your wound
O, I?m gonna bruise you
O, you?re gonna be my bruise"

The Word of Your Body (Spring Awakening)
I still to this day don't understand those lyrics. Not just the ones I posted, I don't understand ANY of the lyrics to that song.

"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas."

Aww. I've always really like that lyric, even though I can't stand the show. It's the perfect way to describe the fear of jumping into a new relationship: I'm going to end up getting hurt again, but I'm also afraid of hurting you.

That makes sense now!!! I always though it was them having sexual fantasies of having some sort of violent domination sex thing... I'm not trying to be funny, I really though that.

Hey, who knows, in the context of the song, it very well might be. And maybe it's just because of where I was in my life when I saw the show. But I always heard it as the fear of jumping into something new.

Every single lyric in "Bright Lights, Big City" is weird. And they try SO hard to be "Raw...Schocking...Hard Hitting" and it's awful to the point where it's almost comical. I don't think there is a musical worse than "Bright Lights, Big City". There is nothing good in that show... at all, not one thing

Pretty much any lyric from Spring Awakening.

"We all have our junk and my junk is you"

I understand what they are saying, but that is just HORRENDOUS.

I don't understand the lyrics in Spring Awakening. I think the book is decent, and the music is great... but the lyrics make no sense to me.

"When you handed me the first draft of this show
I?ll admit I was a little bit ?what the f---??
But I?m not giving up on you guys until all of us have learned to knit
On the bus and truck
On the bus and truck"

What "truck" is Heidi referring to? Garbage? Dump? Moving, perhaps?

I mean, come on. Are we really supposed to believe that four actors are going to be sitting around, learning to knit ON A TRUCK? Isn't there another word that would fit into this verse and rhyme with "f---?"

Give me Spring Awakening lyrics any day. Or any song written by Elton John. That stuff makes SENSE . . . at least compared to this. ^^^

I don't know the show very well, but I would assume she is talking about a bus and truck tour.

I figured it my duty to show how bad the lyrics to Bright Lights, Big City are. This song is called "Odeon". This song is terrible, at one point they all get from a line and snort coke from this dude's hand. Words can not describe how bad this show is.

"Ensemble:
Odeon, Odeon
Odeon

Jamie:
I know I should be working
But instead I?m busy shirking
All the drudgery and drivel of responsibility
Both eyes peeled for lonely girls
I don?t think I?m seeing any nuns
Who?d be interested in coming home with me

Tad:
Cherche le gram, man
Cherche le gram
My connection let me down
He had to leave town
Real quick, big hurry
I?ll score, don?t worry

Girl #1:
Hey, aren?t you Amanda White?s ex-husband?
She was yummy, for a while I used to stop?

Jamie:
No, no we?re not

Girl #1:
Sorry, she was hot

Theresa:
Well son, we?d like to get to Bolivia right away

Jamie:
I speak your lingo

Tad:
Bingo!
Let?s go everybody
It?s snowing in the bathroom

Jamie:
Ha! That didn?t take long

Ensemble:
Nice rush, cool ****
Mind f*ck, electronics
Gin and tonics, Reaganomics
Gimme more celebrities
Calvin Klein, Mary Booth
Bastian, hooking up
Christie Brinkley, I?ve been busted
Steve Ruble and Jackie O
Odeon

Pot Girl:
Seems like I?ve spent half my life in bathrooms lately

Ensemble:
Odeon

Theresa:
I know what you mean

Tad:
Oh so neat
Bon appetite
So, are we ready to roll?

Jamie and Ensemble:
Where are we rolling?

Tad:
Into the heart of the night!
All over the city tonight
A million nightclubs crave our cash
And past infinity desires, regimes, Savoy
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy
I?m talking female confection
I?m talking something soft and sweet
I?m talking electricity, femininity
It?s better than drugs

Tad and Ensemble:
The libido tugs, the magnet chars
Animal lust because because
Man made woman, woman made man
It?s obvious, it?s obvious
I wanna have sex tonight
I wanna have sex tonight
Come on!
Come on!

Girl #2:
See him?

Girl #3:
Yeah?

Girl #2:
Did him

Girl #3:
Nice
See her?

Girl #2:
Yeah?

Girls #3:
Did her

Girl #2:
Ew!
Did him

Girl #3:
Did her

Girl #2:
Did him

Girl #3:
Did her

Girl #2:
Did him

Girl #3:
Did her

Ensemble:
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?

All:
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Can you make me come?
Knocks and knockers
C*cks and c*ckers
Elevation, midnight blue

Theresa:
Would you be less quiet if you have the chance?

All:
I cordially invite you to bite it
Ride it, slip it, slide it
Gloss and glide it, light me up
Make me forget my whole life sucks
And a million f*cks won?t make that right
But, yeah, I wanna have sex tonight
I wanna have sex tonight
Come on!
Come on!

Pot Girl:
Got any smoke?

Jamie:
Can Bob Hope tell a joke?

Pot Girl:
Bob who?

Jamie:
I?ll get something for you

Pot Girl:
Hurry up, my mother?s gonna kill me

Jamie:
Your mother?

Pot Girl:
Come on!

Jamie:
Alright

Ensemble:
I wanna have sex"

Yes, GIZMO2, a "bus and truck" tour is an old theater term for a traveling tour (such as a national tour) of a show. So that lyric from [tos] is Heidi's way of saying that she's not giving up on them until the show has become such a success that they're all on the national tour.
Sorry if that is too much explanationre: Weirdest Lyrics in a Broadway Show...
Re: Rent--I have often thought the same thing. The lyric that always bothers me the most is the one in "Santa Fe" that goes something like "And save from devastation our brains." Ouch!

What Byron Abens said. Heidi is looking towards a future of the four of them being together on tour. The truck carries the sets and costumes, the bus carries the crew and actors. There's a lot of down time between destinations, so one pastime out of many is knitting.

In the song, she envisions them being on a bus and truck tour. It's a really common phrase for anyone with any sort of theatrical background. Makes perfect sense.

AllThatJazz, that song is mindblowingly horrendous. My jaw is brushing the floor from disbelief that anything like that exists.

The "Brights Lights, Big City" lyrics made me feel a combination of "This is funny" and "WTF????" Parts of it make me laugh and parts of it are just wrong.

I always thought Spring Awakening had the worst lyrics of any score I've ever listened to. Mamma Mia! has better lyrics for crying out loud, and that was written by Swedish pop singers! Hair is next in line as the musical with the worst lyrics that I just can't stand listening to the show's score.

Dean: Can I tell you something? Lorraine: That depends on what it is. Dean: I think you're really really pretty. Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.

"Marius: Hey, Eponine, what's up today?I haven't seen you much about.
Eponine: Here you can always catch me in.
Marius: Mind the police don't catch you out!"

I always thought this was so weird...especially, "Here you can always catch me in." Does that even make sense?

"You see, I told you so! There's lots of things I know. 'Ponine, she knows her way around."

Though I like the song, I think the winner for weirdest lyrics would have to be:

Gliddy glub gloopy
Nibby nabby noopy
La la la lo lo
Sabba sibby sabba
Nooby abba nabba
Le le lo lo
Tooby ooby walla
Nooby abba naba
Early morning singing song

And though it makes sense in the show (and is freakin' hilarious), second place is:

She Said
"Boom Chick-a Chick-a Chick-a
Pah Pah-ka Wa-ka Wa-ka
Ka Ka-Ka Wa-Ka Wa-Ka
Poo Poo-Soo Woo-Sa Woo-Sa
Pah Pah-Ka Wa-Ka Wa-Ka, Wow!"

Sunset Boulevard.

There's been a call
What did I say
They want to see me right away

The intent of "what did I say" is "I told you so". But to me "what did I say" makes it sound like Norma has short term memory issues.
"What did I just say?"

Schmerg and Misto. Yes. It amazes me that BLBC has ever been produced. There are others songs just as bad, and worse.

From ANNIE GET YOUR GUN:

"Her nail'll be polished

And I'll be there"

Where will he be? In her hair? Possibly stuck in the polish from her freshly painted nails.

Dollypop, I was just thinking that-- I'm in that show right now, and I was so confused when Frank sang that.

It's also a bit odd when Frank sings to Annie, "To hold a man in your arms is wonderful," because he just sang, "I've been there once or twice and I should know."
