PLEASE let this roller skate thing be true. Camp classic in the making.
But Napier did design starlight express which is probably why his name came up in this thread.
I think whoever plays Sebastian should have to crab-walk through the entire show. With skates on his hands and feet. It could re-invent the form. So sad that kids don't play crab soccer anymore.
Someone watched The Simpsons last night.

Wow...if they do the roller skate thing, and it turns out bad, I am sooooo going to see it in previews...
Oh my!
Calvin, I couldn't agree with you more!!!!
Mermaid Express!!!
hahaha, I just don't get how they would use roller skates if Mermaids don't have legs. If this is true, I CAN'T WAIT to see how it goes...
Nonononononononono. No. PLEASE be just a rumor.

Excellent point!

They are NOT using roller skates. They are using those shoes with the wheels in the heels. Everyone who went to audition had to use them, so unless something occurs during rehearsals will they have to re-think the concept, assume there will be "skating" in the show.
One giant roller skate on their tail. Duh.
Ya need feet to wear shoes with wheels in the heels!
I think this idea funny, remember Tarzan Rocks! I think they are going for camp, at least that is what I got from the demo. I'm sure the legs are just black tights and tails connected some other way.
Nothing looks worse than flying. Wicked does a good job of making it abstract though (DG scene). This show needs to have landlegs if it wants to tour. Tarzan is just a mess, it would have been so much better on skates.
Haven't you guys ever heard of "sea legs"?

Auditions were done with "heelies."
well this new bit of information seems less bad, my theory is that there will be flying mixed in with some gliding about (lets face it "under the sea" with everyone on wires would take a small army backstage )

Between Xanadu, Little Mermaid, and Starlight, I'm actually thinking Starlight Express is the best of the three.
Isn't THE RINK being revived?

I think it would be hilarious to see a bunch of people that are supposed to be sea creatures on wheels. There aren't enough rollarskating musicals in the world? Okay, maybe that last part's a lie.
I'll be sad if the roller skating makes The Little Mermaid loose it's dignity completely, though. It's always been my favorite Disney cartoon.
I knew it! It's an international conspiracy on the part of those roller skates to take over Broadway!
Can you imagine the squeal of the wheels picking up in the mics?
At least with Starlight the music was so loud you couldnt hear much else.
I suppose you could just say that the squeals are just dolphins near by.

Will they be performing on a raked stage? That could be fun.
