One more vote for Ms. Anderson.
Heads, Nancy. Tails, Jessica. Either way, we win!
the Tina was way sarcastic...btws.
Sarah Gettlefinger....
Nancy Anderson....
Mylinda Hull....
And what is Milena Govich up to these days? She would be perfect!!
Forget Janet. I'm waiting for the announcement that Beth Leavel will be replaced in the role of the chaperone by Lorna Luft.
"It's sad if Sutton becomes the "standard" or the one to beat for triple threats. We still have Chita Rivera, Bebe Neuwirth, Charlotte d'Amboise, Karen Ziemba, Brenda Braxton, etc. And lets not forget the original triple threat, Gwen Verdon. Those ARE some of the triple threats to beat."
But Sutton is the CURRENT gold standard. And I really think she certanly holds her own with all of them (well, except Chita. I mean come on....)

I think Sutton is on her way to becoming a legend in hew own right. I think she's utterly fantastic and has KILLER comedic timing, and a not-too-high yet stunning belt.
As for a replacement - I think it's actually a fairly hard part. It's tailored to Sutton's talents, and they're pretty hard shoes to fill.
Nancy Anderson is a bit too old to play the part, I think.
And Espinosa is not suited for this part at all.
I'd like to see an unknown get the part.
In the casting call sent to agents they are saying that they are willing to tailor her big number to suit the new star's talents so I guess they are pretty open to anything, not necessarily what Sutton did. At least as far as that number is concerned.
Which goes miles toward proving how irreplaceable she really is.

I don't think any of them have Sutton's voice. She's just got such a rich, pure musical theater voice. I think that's why we haven't seen her do any film/tv work because she's so very much a theatre actress. Sort of like how Michael Arden came off as too "theatre" on Grey's.

Hunter Foster.
Throw a wig on him and no one will know the difference.
I'd rather listen to Karen Ziemba sing over Sutton any day. Her voice is quite lovely and she has learned a thing or two about how to use it that Sutton has not.
I adore the Lorna Luft idea! Someone send her an email quick! Concerning Sutton, I like the idea of Nancy Anderson. She would be a good assest to the show and she's a really fun and talented kind of performer.
Part of what Sutton is doing that will set her apart is that she is finding ORIGINAL roles. The ladies with whom she is being compared (Verdon, Rivera, etc.) originated roles and became identified with them. As much as I like Bebe Neuwirth, she does not belong in the same category because she has not created any legendary roles.

- Yeah, but I still refuse believe she has the dance skills like those ladies. Sutton is obviously a great dancer, and a great singer/actress. But those women have built their careers on dancing, dancing is their life, most of them will tell you they would have nothing without dance. I just don't believe Sutton's career/life is built on dance, like those triple threats. Some people make out her out to be a dance phenomenon, that we've never seen before. Any trained dancer can usually kick their leg over their head, or hold it there. Not THAT impressive. And Chita Rivera when she first started out, man could she really sing. Just listen to her on the WSS OBCR. And Brenda Braxton is known for having a FANTASTIC voice. She can really sing. Sutton's not the only performer who can dance and has a great singing voice.

ljay is absolutely right. Put against any of those women, Sutton would look like a beginning dancer. She's a second-rate triple threat - an adequate singer, dancer, and actress.
^ I'm glad you see it like I do, Rath.
I also can't believe I forgot to mention Donna McKechnie. Another woman who built her career on dance. And she can REALLY sing. She has a wonderfully trained soprano voice, which is rare for a lot of triple threats. When she was Sutton's age, her dancing and singing skills would absolutely blow Sutton skills of now out of the water.
Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera both had beautiful voices when they started their careers, and even when their voices became a bit raspy they retained a gift for delivering a number that Sutton has not mastered yet.
I believe Bebe Neuwirth, Karen Ziemba, and Ann Reinking are the closest you get to Verdon, Rivera, McKechnie, Helen Gallagher, et al. On the Q & A on Broadway.com with Neuwirth, she mentions the fact that she can hardly imagine her life without dancing, her two Tony-award winning roles on Broadway have been the dance-heavy Nickie and Velma Kelly; when you compare her to Foster you realize that while Sutton Foster is a talented actress, singer, and dancer, she is hardly Broadway's most prominent triple-threat.
CARA COOPER.
Not a big name (but in Broadway today, the "big names" seem to just be the mainstream cross-overs a la recently Tony Danza, et al).
But...
+ fantastic look!
+ fantastic voice (all of you who saw her cover Amy numerous times in Singer know it!).
+ can dance like there's no tomorrow! Yes, she's done the ensemble in All Shook Up and Singer, as well as '80s crazy lady "Holly" from Singer too... but this chick can TAP. She's toured in 42nd St in the ensemble (and covered "Peggy Sawyer") as well as doing that show recently at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philly, playing "Peggy." Amazing footwork in any style.
Cara wins my vote as "Janet" ... but from who's been mentioned I think Sara would be great.
