What are good showtunes about growing up? The theme for my school talent show is "we are the world", so really anything of that sort. Preferably a group number, for high schoolers. Obviously when I grow up from matilda, but I'm looking for something a but more mature. Thanks!
"Neverland" from Peter Pan - can be hauntingly beautiful
"No Time At All" from Pippin - funny and deep at the same time
"Growing Up" from Merrily We Roll Along, of course. Although, "Our Time" is more appropriate for what you're seeking.

"Our Time" - Merrily We Roll Along
"Sixteen Going on Seventeen" - Sound of Music
"Corner of the Sky" - Pippin
"Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love" from A Chorus Line.
"Hills of Tomorrow" and "Merrily We Roll Along" from "Merrily We Roll Along".
"Hello Twelve" from "Chorus Line".
"13" from "13".
"A Little More Homework To Do" from 13.
It's not from a Broadway show, but another option is "This Time" from the Glee series finale.

yeah I agree. I would say it's an extremely mature piece. And I'm not being sarcastic.

Is this a musical type of talent show? Does it have to be a Broadway song? There are so many pop songs out there that deal with growing up. As for the theme "We are the world" I don't know why but as a kid of the 90s I always think of Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All" whenever people talk about children growing up and what not. I think it would make a great group song.
How Lovely to be a Woman - Bye Bye Birdie. (for an all girls number)
And I agree: nothing immature about When I Grow Up. I had a group of seniors sing it at our thespian night caberet (their final gig) and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Should have also included "No One Is Alone" from Into the Woods in my previous post. Actually, every song from Into the Woods.

"How Far Is Too Far?" and "Thank God" from Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?
With "How Far Is Too Far?" you cover a big question a lot of teens have to ask themselves and figure out.
"Thank God" is an interesting look back at the teen years from an adult perspective.
