It's not that I don't like it, but I don't love Hamilton.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate or even dislike Hamilton. It's incredibly well done, I love sung through pieces, and I like how it's a new way to tell history. It just doesn't resonate with me like it does with other people.
I never saw it on Broadway, but four years ago New Conservatory Theater Company in San Francisco produced it. Meh. Cute, but I couldn't understand the raves. Then they brought it back the next season. And -- shake my head -- for a third season. Now, as my head falls off from shaking my head still, sure enough it's back for a fourth season, starting next month. I guess we should just expect to see it as part of their season every year from now on. I wonder what subscribers think?
Now, that said, last spring when visiting my friend in NYC, he really wanted to see it. Ok, let's go to New World Stages. He bought the tickets. I have to admit, I enjoyed it and so did my friend who is not that much a theater patron. Still, while I enjoyed it, I don't get all the big woo-hoo about it.
