Like Bright Star, what musicals have more of a bluegrass feel?

THE DARK OF THE MOON is sometimes called a play rather than a musical per se. But bluegrass music is sung throughout. IMO, it's a beautiful work.

THE SPITFIRE GRILL and FLOYD COLLINS both have bluegrass influences, although they are not bluegrass scores on the whole per se.

Uh, no. Sorry. PAINT YOUR WAGON is as much bluegrass as OKLAHOMA!

PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES has some numbers that border on bluegrass, but on the whole I think you'd call it "country", not bluegrass.

No, absolutely neither of these. I'm not entirely sure what I might call PYW but it's for sure not bluegrass and CFA is modern Celtic rock.

I would also say Come From Away. Maybe Hadestown? Not sure if that would be classified as bluegrass...

I'm not making any claims to the authenticity of any arguable bluegrass feeling in either score, but GRASS HARP? ANGEL?

VIOLET also some bluegrass feel so it. Also Song Bird, but unfortunately that was never recorded.

The Ballad of Little Jo's production in New Jersey with Teal Wicks was just recorded and should be released soon-ish. That a similar style of music too.

I don't know the score to ANGEL, henrik, but THE GRASS HARP is really standard Broadway with the occasional "C&W" inflection. (An argument might be made over the speaking in tongues section; I'm not sure what you'd call it, but to my ear it's just a Broadway interpretation of the phenomenon.)

PAINT YOUR WAGON is Broadway or "Great American Songbook" or "Tin Pan Alley" style with a few "C&W" inflections. I'd wager its hits appeared on the regular Billboard charts.

With respect, I think you're mixing "blues" and "bluegrass". The latter is "white" music, usually stemming from the Scotch-Irish in the Appalachian Mountains. The blues were originally "black" music from New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta. Obviously, all these styles are mixed today, but to my ear anyway, HADESTOWN wants to be a blues musical.

As someone said above, COME FROM AWAY is contemporary Celtic rock.

:rolls eyes affectionately:

You New Yorkers and your aversion to crossing the Hudson!

I assume you mean the Balladeer/Banjo section and not Booth's actual ballad, the latter ("The Country Is Not What It Was"Musicals with bluegrass feel? being a classic show tune. The banjo part before and after isn't really bluegrass either, but, yes, banjos are often used in Appalachian music.

I don't know if you're looking for just Broadway shows, but Spoon River by Soulpepper theater company is solidly bluegrass. It's currently playing off-Broadway, and the Toronto production has a cast recording which can be found on Spotify.
