The Ahmanson has a really bad lineup...

I definitely will be taking the train north from my home in San Diego for "Swan Lake" at the Ahmanson.  Very excited to see this Matthew Bourne production (for my 73rd birthday in January).  This Sadler's Wells clip is from about a year ago.

I'm excited for The New One and Once on This Island. Latin History is on Netflix already so...

I've been an Ahmanson subscriber for a long time.   Next season is tough since Pantages/Nederlander landed most of the musicals on tour.   I'm really disappointed that TORCH SONG doesn't appear to be happening.  I wish they had swept wider for plays to bring in rather than one person shows which I think are better suited to the Taper or Douglas.  We still haven't gotten OSLO here in LA.  And NETWORK would have been a coup if they could mount it.  I'm not happy that they are bringing in two shows that have played in LA several times before.  But more power to those folk who now get a chance to see them.

I agree this is one of the weakest Ahmanson seasons in recent memory. Normally when the musicals have been weak that have managed to at least remount a play with original Broadway cast. (God of Carnage, The humans) One-persons shows that would be a much better fit at the Taper and will be swallowed up by the Ahmanson even with the back half of the Mezz and Balcony closed don’t count.

I also want to be slightly annoyed that Book of Mormon isn’t a bonus add on however I think I posted many pages ago when the Pantsges announced that Hamilton wasn’t included so it might be a bit hypocritical to post the opposite view now.

I am glad we are getting Mathew Bourne’s Swan Lake. Mathew Bourne is one of the things that distinguishes the abmanson from the Pantages. Oh well I can’t beliewe how the Pantages pretty much swept booking the musicals. Hopefully Michael Ritchie can pull something big out for the TBA slot.

I wonder after rhe reviews start coming in how awful the Dolby is if the tide will flow the other way in future years; if Hamilton has a multi year run tying up the Pantages. However I’m sure touring producers just go to whomever pays them the most.

Anyone know of any announcements this week? Hoping Providence is one of them. Maybe they'll just be waiting for Boston though.

Noticed no Phantom tour dates after Toronto in Feb(It's third time there for the current tour). Does anybosdy think it's closing them? Cam Mackintosh said 4 years ago that it was supposed to last another 4 years

Additional shows at Denver: Phantom, JCS, Grinch, Rent, Lion King, and BOM. (Don't know if Blue Man Group qualifies, but it's also playing.)

FYI: Denver's season marks the 50th one announced for the year. (Only like 250 more to go!)

As for Phantom's tour, I noticed today that there haven't been any US stops announced past 2019. I know it's still early, but I could see it ending after the stop in Toronto.

Not surprised that Spongbob went to the Boch. Was hoping Rent would be at the colonial but excited to see it anyways!

Doesn’t really belong in this thread, but we know Frozen will be playing through the 2020-2021 season.... which shouldn’t surprise anyone. So weird that they are announcing this stop so early, but whatever. I wonder since Broadway in Chicago won’t be getting frozen next season if we might be getting another Disney show to compensate. Like I’ve said before it’s been almost four years since the lion king last came around and Aladdin almost 2 years.

I’m also surprised Bandstand isn’t an add on. However this year If you didn’t subscribe in time instead of CFA you got Lion King.perhaps that’ll be the case in case with this year’s.

Based on the other 4 major florida cities, I’d predict:
- Miss Saigon
- Mean Girls
- Escape To Margaritaville
- Aladdin
- Summer

Wild Card Tossups
- Band’s Visit (not announced for any other FL cities thus far though in the past Straz has gotten other shows as their only FL stop such as Fun Home and If/Then)
- Once On This Island (not announced for any other FL cities thus far)
- Spongebob (not announced for any other FL cities thus far)
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (only announced for Miami thus far)
- Bandstand (only announced for Fort Lauderdale thus far)

- Jesus Christ Superstar (only announced for Miami thus far)

Frozen and Wicked (again) probably/maybe in the 2020-2021 season.

"

I would not expect Tampa to show Margaritaville or Bandstand, since both are scheduled for the announced Sarasota season; Sarasota sorta gets 'sloppy seconds' after Tampa, i.e.,  things usually play a full week in Tampa and then a few days in Sarasota from one to X years later, e.g., this season Sarasota has The Lion King for the first time ever, whereas it played Tampa (I don't know if it was the first time) about 3 years ago.  Sarasota also has there revised Les Mis production, which probably played Tampa at least 5 - 6 years ago.  Sarasota is one of those places where -- anytime I see a musical at the touring theatre -- I have already seen it multiple times; as a result, I  don't attend a lot of their shows unless I really liked them.

Re your prior post, what is the Boch? Did a theatre change its name?

Yes—some millionaire named Boch added  his name to the Wang and Schubert theaters across the street from each other. The main Broadway series is at Boston Opera House with a few going to Emerson Colonial since it reopened
