My dream would be Audra as Nettie but I know that won't happen."
This would be amazing, and probably the only way I’d choose to see this revival.
I wonder if Fleming's replacement might be Stephanie Blythe? She did at with the NY Phil not that long ago and I believe also with the Houston Grand Opera.
If you check her engagement schedule she is free until November when she has performances at the Met Opera.
Just the kind of "earth mother" voice I like in that role!
If "someone who would be considered on the same level as Fleming" means a prominent opera star, I think there are about 6 women in the world who realistically fit the bill:
Jessye Norman Frederica von Stade Deborah Voigt Joyce DiDonato Susan Graham Stephanie Blythe

Leslie Uggams should step in!"
It’s not happening, but my god, I’d fly in to see her opening night if it was Leslie Uggams!!
Susan Graham would be inspired casting but she is booked all of September and parts of October.
Are Deborah Voigt, Jessye Norman and von Stade still actively performing? Maybe they could be lured back from (semi) retirement. Voigt does sing concerts on occasion, but Norman and especially von Stade you see the names less and less. von Stade is actually in Philly during September. Norman doesn't seem to have an engagements calendar that I can find.
Joyce diDonato has some free dates in September/ mid-October.
Inspired choices all but I am still thinking it will be Ms. Blythe who has just the right amount of time free and has done the role.
