What do you think is the best DVD/VHS of a Broadway Musical/Play? The one that immediately pops into my head is Into the Woods...but I have no seen many, maybe bc they don't have many. But anyway I would like to hear what you think.
The old Raisin In The Was a taped version of the broadway play, correct, just in a soundstage instead of a theatre, and then there is Ohklahoma(w/ hugh jackman).
I like the Kiss me Kate dvd...i watch that all the time gotta love rachael york.

Really, any show that makes it to DVD is a gem. I wish more shows went that route. It would bring Broadway to a much wider audience and give the actors nice residuals!
My two faves are "Kiss Me, Kate" and "Victor/Victoria," which both happen to have stunning performances by Rachel York. She's so much fun to watch and she plays very well to the camera. Both of these shows transfered very well to video because of excellent direction, camera work and editing. They were not static in the least and caught every little nuance.

Until one is made of "The Boy from Oz" (nearly 4000 signatures on the petition) my money's on the London revival of "Oklahoma!"

Sweeney Todd on DVD is amazing, as is Into the Woods on DVD. Both capture classic performances from Angela Lansbury, George Hearn, and Joanna Gleason.

Into the Woods is definately a wonderful DVD to have...I have the VHS of the Les Mis dream cast in concert which is good to have if you want to see the best of the best!
Gov, don't forget Bernadette.
I left her off for a reason. She's brilliant in the second act (especially Last Midnight), but overall, her performance was just a bit too over-the-top. She's perfect on the cd, but I didn't care much for her in the DVD.
But she's Bernadette, so never mind.

Jackman'sOklahoma! bugs me to all hell becauseit was filmed on asound stage and an audience was digitally added.I like the QUALITY of the CATS vid.. but hate that there is no audience and the show is sliced to bits...not to mention the show itself.....
I HIGHLY enjoy Into The Woods and Putting It Together.. no to mention Smokey Joe's Cafe.. filmed the last week of the run... and a GREAT cast.. MMMM.. Matt Bogart
It wasn't added digitally the audience in oklahoma, that people was really in the national, but you are true, the main part of the show was shot on studio
there is an article about that in the kodak magazine:

**scratches head** well that made little sense.
I think she is saying that the audience was taped during an actual performance, but the show taped on camera was added instead of the show in an actual performance in the theater.
Oh, by the way, I vote for Oklahoma! with Hugh Jackman.
