What do you think are going to be the future Greases, Oklahomas, and Footlooses of high schools aka future overdone high school musicals?

If the rights are released for Wicked. Lord help us.
I wish directors would have the brains to know when their schools doesn't have what it takes.
I doubt many High Schools would do Hairspray.
Beauty and the Beast.
Wicked in high school would suck! haha. could you imagine a high school trying to pull off defying gravity?

Actually the flying in "Defying Gravity" is very easy to recreate. Just use a Genie/cherry picker which is used to hang lights. Viola!
I think ALL SHOOK UP will be the new GREASE!

I think "25th Annual Putname County Spelling Bee" will be HUGELY popular with High Schools if the rights were released. It's such a simple production, and so great... High Schools across the nation will be doing it left and right!
I think "Urinetown" will be too.
I can just see Wicked 10 years from now in some high school auditorium...
I hope it NEVER happens!

Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!
Question. When high schoolers are doing Les Mis now, is it a really watered-down version? I've never subjected myself to a high school performance of that show. I don't think my heart could take it.
I think we'll be seeing a lot of dramatic monologues culled from "The Blonde in the Thunderbird," BTW.

"Footloose" and "Seussical" are starting to infiltrate the high school market significantly. Hardly classics either one, but nice ways to introduce young people to the theatre.
Kringas - Ha, I don't really try out for stuff at my school because it mostly sucks, but I actually at one point considered trying out for the variety show, anyway with "Kris, Look What You've Missed." I didn't think that "Perky Little Porn Star" would go over well.
I never saw the original, so I don't know how "watered down" it is, but schools usually do the School Edition, and I believe some of the lyrics are cut out to condense the show - I think it's still about 3 hours, no?

MTI already owns the rights and I'm guessing it will be released in the next couple of years, being restrictied and later made available to everyone.
Spelling Bee has too many adult scenarios to fly at a high school. Let's just start with all the gay stuff...I dount the world will progress enough in 10-20 years to make that show a staple in High School.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is currently restriced, but MTI has the rights... similar situation as Wicked.
I guess we'll see how it goes... I think that I will probably keel over dead when Wicked becomes available, Aida is available now which terrifies me, and probably Fiddler on the Roof
