No, but it wouldn't be the first time it happened.

When the CHICAGO revival opened, Nancy Hess was the standby for both Roxie & Velma. And she stayed the standby for both roles for several years.

Megan Sikora is understudy for Glinda and Nessa...that's close - sort of.

She really is a Glinda type - I'd love to see her. She is very nice, too. I'm a fan!

I think it depends on how close the lead characters are, Roxie and Velma are more similar than Elphaba and Galinda.

There might be a swing who knows all the female roles just in case. Anthony Galde is a swing but he knows every male role just in case the main actor, and all understudies for some reason couldnt make it.

I saw Nancy Hess go on as Roxie and to this day it ranks as one of the worst performances I have ever seen on Broadway.

Chita has also played both Roxie and Velma so it is all good.

There are also a ton of actors who covered both Roger and Mark in RENT.

As someone said, Megan Sikora covers both Glinda and Nessa, and Shoshana (when she was a standby) covered Elphaba and Nessa (but only performed as Nessa once). I think because the actors they hire to play Glinda (blonde and bubbly) and the actors that play Elphaba (brunette, ethnic-looking) are so different, I doubt there will ever be a standby to cover both those parts.

I saw Nancy Hess as Velma in Chicago (opposite Karen Ziemba) and Lord, was she a trainwreck.

As for double covers...Alton Fitzgerald White covered John and Chris in Miss Saigon for awhile. I think he even played both roles.

so did Sho - who's "Wicked Witch of the East" was one of the best things to ever happen to this show. Too bad she only got to do it at one performance.
