'On the Street Where You Live from My Fair Lady. A valentine to stalkers everywhere. You can just imagine the ski cap and the high powered rifle while you listen to it.'

I love it.

love this little article thingy.

All John Lithgow says is: "Send in the Clowns." no explantion. just very simple, like he is.

Jonathan Pryce: "It has to be "Love Sneaks In" from DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS. A Valentine song for the more mature man." LOVE THAT! lol. so cute!

A lot of people put "If I Loved You" from Carousel.

Michelle Federer said: The Next Ten Minutes from L5Y. that is cute!

I love Rick McKay! He said my favorite. (or at least, one of my favorites): "They Can't Take That Away From Me" from Crazy For You. (my other is "If I Didn't Believe in You" from L5Y)

oh there are so many, how can they choose only one????

Well if I have to pick one "right now" then I would say "lily's hazel eyes from the Secret garden (but I always need a tissue when I listen to "The next ten minutes" or "where's the girl - especially the reprsie".

Awe. Michael Cerveris' from 2005

"Most romantic Broadway showtune? I guess it would have to be "The Internet Is For Porn" from Avenue Q. Yeah, it's been a tough year....... "

now have new love for this man after that!

Michelle Federer's ...so cute... I wonder if Norbert sings it to her...?

It did kind of annoy me when some of the performers said a song from a show they were in... but that's just me...

I love this list!

My favorite is one of love lost. "Still Hurting" from The Last 5 Years is so phenomenal.

Really Chrys, how shocking!

Well "If I Loved You" seems to be the winner--everyone did a great job of explaining why it deserves that honor, and not only that but it lasts and moves what could be a very difficult scene to occur in 10 minutes.

Also think it's necessary to point out and give credit to shows that quite a few songs were picked--West Side Story and Sweeney Todd. Just emphasizes the complexity, ambiguity and just total richness of these two scores.

As for answering the question...I'm pretty surprised not one person mentioned it, and I no it's overdone and cliche but I'd hafta go with "Seasons of Love." Because I think the theme and message of the song applies to measuring your life in all kinds of love, not just romantic love. I mean, sometimes I think we're a society whose so obsessed with the idea of romantic love, that we can overlook the value of the love evident in friendships. Sometimes I think just how amazing it is that there are so many ppl in this world, and most friends I have no sort of attachment to, they were total strangers to me, but the fact that I've created relationships as close as those in the family and that everyone does this just boggles my mind.

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

For me, there are a plethora of songs. Everytime I thought I had one picked out, someone on the list named another song that I absolutely love.

* "Unusual Way" from NINE. This song just breaks my heart! It is so unbareably beautiful and one of the few songs that leaves me in tears.

* "They Were You" from THE FANTASTICKS. Just a beautiful, simple melody with a beautiful, simple message.

* "On My Own" from LES MISERABLES. Well, since it's my favorite song it kind of had to be on the list by default. Another song that has left me in tears.

* "All the Wasted Time" from PARADE. Yet ANOTHER song that has made me cry. This is what love is--putting aside all the other nonsense going on around you and connecting with that one person.

If I only have to choose one song, it would have to be "As Long As He Needs Me" from Oliver. It's a simple, beautiful song about a love that has seen better days but just won't die, which I think is something a lot of people can relate to.

Other favorites:
"Not a Day Goes By" from Merrily We Roll Along
"Sleepy Man" from The Robber Bridegroom
"Now I Have Everything" from Fiddler on the Roof
"Hey There" from The Pajama Game
"Wanting" from Rags (another chilling song about love that refuses to die)

"You Are My Dream" from DREAMGIRLS because I remember thinking..."one day, someone will say that to me"...and he did."
Star Jones

...yeah...then he sang "Steppin' to the Bad Side"

To be fair, the question was about a specific song, not the entire plot of a musical...

I loved this article! I'm such a hopeless romantic that it's hard for me to pick just one.

"On the Street Where You Live"- It may be stalker-esque but it's still beautiful.
"Mira"- I love the message about wanting something more and then getting it only to realize that what you had in the first place was enough.
"Ten Minutes Ago"- I fell in love with this as a little girl and it still makes me all dreamy-eyed.
"As Once I Loved You" and "Away From You" from REX- The longing in these is just beautiful.
Hmmmm...that's all I can think of for right now. I'm sure I'll add more later.

I'd say that the medley Marin Mazzie sings on the Stephen Schwartz Album of "With You/Gifts of Love" is my favorite.....It's rather haunting.

I have so many:
1. "I Turned the Corner" from Thoroughly Modern Mille
2. "All I Ask of You" from Phantom
3. "As Long as You're Mine" from Wicked (I am a little biased as it is a special song for my boyfriend and me. It's one of "our songs")
4. "I'll Cover You" from Rent
5. "On My Own" from Lez Miserables.
