Thanks for your help so far! I was wondering if you could also help me think of sexually aggressive female characters from non-Sondheim shows? Older the better but more recent is fine too.

I have Ado Annie from Oklahoma, Lola from Damn Yankees, Lois Lane from Kiss Me Kate, Rizzo from Grease, Shelia in A Chorus Line, Carmen Jones, Evita, some of the women of Hello Again, the taxi cab character from On the Town.

I really wouldn't consider the Baroness in Sound of Music to be an outcast. If anything, Maria is the outcast of that show.

Well it's more specific than that, but I didn't want to lead too much/wanted to keep the door open for a change of ideas.

My thesis is that Sondheim revolutionized the treatment of the female outsider (most specifically ending with Fosca in Passion), as nearly every other female character outsider before his shows either found her tragic demise/ruination or was "tamed" to fit society's standards.

Well for the "Agressive" ones, I would have to say Queenie in The Wild Party.

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

I don't know if she really counts, but maybe Adela in "The House of Bernarda Alba".
